So basically wanting to play as much as possible throughout winter.... Doubt I'll play much if it's chucking it down but cold dry weather is totally fine.

My course is pretty much guaranteed to freeze over December through February but I've heard coastal courses don't tend to freeze over is this the case?

If so can people point out good courses on west coast with decent deals- I've heard good things about barassie but any others that won't break the bank?

Playsport was shut about twice last year, full greens nearly always on, full fairways always on and they're doing a winter membership for £150, covering you from now until March. No brainer bud.

Lots of choices depending on price you're prepared to pay. Cheapest i think is the 3 Troon municipal courses.
Maybe try West Kilbride, Dundonald, the 2 Gailes, St Nicks , to mention just a few.

There's lots of cheap winter golf available on the west coast, especially if you know a member .

Not sure how much of the problem is courses freezing over, most winters our local courses are very rarely frozen, problem is that the Inland courses get wet and and don't dry out very well. Those on sand tend to drain a lot better so are much more playable in winter.
As a generalisation I would say those down the coast tend to be more sandy soils but when you get further up the Clyde past Largs the courses stay wet.

Best bet is the 3 Month Membership for South Ayrshire Golf - valid Jan 1st to Mar 31st. 7 day access to all 8 municipal courses....£89 !!

Great deal.
Forward tees [good for Darley bad for Fullarton!] and lift to side of fairways though.
Always very busy at weekends but quiet weekdays after 10am...ish
