Been trying to build a driving bay in the garage for a while. I had grand plans of hooking it up with an Optishot golf sim & projector etc and making it a mans cave. However it was turning out too expensive. The driving bay nets cost about 180-200 quid. So nearly gave up the idea. Last week came across sports netting on fleabay for 50 quid. The net is 10mX10mX10m and seems to be high quality fishing net.Received it yesterday and put it up... Voila we have a driving bay in the garage.

Second hand driving mat from club... Free
High quality net from fleabay.. £50
All season driving bay in the garage .. Priceless

A bit jealous of this! Unfortunately, living in th centre of Edinburgh space is a bit restricted. Maybe the missus will have to find a new home for all her cr@p the spare room will become ultimate indoor driving bay!

Sweet!!! I am very interested to see how long it lasts. I have been using sheets and the like in the garden for years as every time I have had netting its only lasted a day before I put a hole in it as the ball tends to hit the same spot a lot. However netting is much quieter and allows one to see down a target line more.

If it lasts you, I shall be buying some!

What's the benefit of this type of setup? It's not like you can see what type of shot you've hit. Not criticising, I'm just curious as it looks a decent idea if there is a benefit.

impressive, please keep us updated on the quality of the net!

At 10m there is a lot of 'play' in the net, so you move it around. Also the net is long enuf to go twice over on each side. My garage is not tall enuf for me to swing my clubs, but I had a go at it with my sons driver and absolutely nailed a couple, the nets just moved back a bit and absorbed all the shock.. if you want the eBay listing then let me know.. can PM you..

I meant the arched wrist.;)

He is unlikely to win any majors soon :) (I.e. my son rather than DJ)

The biggest benefit is to get him to swing and practice. Can't go to the driving range for a variety of reasons, so having somewhere to open his shoulders is a good beginning. It will never replace a driving range or going on the course.

Last evening before dinner we were hitting a few balls and came up with a game to try and aim at the Sainsbury bag and hit towards it. We only packed up after we could hit in that direction..it was fun. Unfortunately I lost that game ;)

So I am going to get a target cloth that we will hang in different parts of the net and aim for. Also I do have an Optishot simulator that I can add to this to make it more interesting. But the idea at the moment is to just hit a few balls between reading books and making Lego without having to get changed or needing to drive somewhere.

Fantastic idea for the young un. Keeps him off them darn tablets/phones etc. And as you say easily accessible to groove his swing. People who poo poo nets are missing a trick in my opinion. Admittedly you can't see ball flight, but you can feel strike, and we all know when we've creamed one without looking. So hats off to you for setting this up for him. Top Dad!

The biggest up is contact and the promotion of visualization and imagination. The biggest down side is grooving a bad swing. I have grooved many a SOLID contact shot that turned out to be a huge pull or hook.

If you can pick a spot that you want to start the ball and work on that, it can be time well spent.

This was my thought when I saw it. If you can be bothered at some point, I wonder if you would be kind enough to do a close up of the netting its self. Just a section of like 4 boxes or something.

Yes, please PM me the ebay address. Thx.

I have the space in my garage and this is crossing my mind more and more :)

Could you pm me the ebay link the the netting please?

Here are some pics.

As the net is doubled over, this is how it looks up close

The close up of a single layer

This is the amount of play I have... since it is 10m long while my garage is 3m tall, I can run another loop around (but chose not too)

Close up with a ball. However as the net is not stretched when hanging, the holes are smaller.

I was looking for a target for nipper to aim at. Was thinking of getting an archery bullseye off fleabay - but saw this lying around in the garage and strung it up with a garden twine. We had load of fun trying to hit it... Another recycle!!

Will PM Alex & Mashley with the ebay link. I could put it on this thread, as the seller has nothing to do with me. However not sure of which way the Mods will rule on it..

I think it was johnny miller said he used to hit ball after ball in his basement, just visualising the face hitting the ball. Said it improved his strike. Good work old boy :)

Yesterday, my son figured it would be fun to run and hit it the ball, so he did that. I nearly died laughing, but did not stop him. Later in the day, I showed him clips of Happy Gilmore. This morning I filmed this.. https://youtu.be/l2ucssLCN5I

I guess this is more difficult to do down at the range.
