well turned up to my lesson today, and asked my coach, instead of doing a lesson out on the course, could we work on my driver work/release of the club.
i started the lesson with the famous SLICE!! always have done with the driver. he took slo-mo video of my swing and showed me i wasnt rotating my left wrist to close the club face. after a few swings i started picking it up, then BOOM!!! he switched me to a 12 deg Ping G10 and now its going 260-275 yds!
i then went out on the course, the week before i shot 102 (first time round), today i shot 89!! hit all but 2 fairways using the driver. (went OOB on one and ended up in the rough with the other) but was SOOO HAPPY when i got to the 18th!!!
now looking to buy the Ping G10 as its a second hand they let me borrow.
anyway, just thought id share my joy!!

Great news buddy. Well done. :)

That's some improvement.... Great golf!!
I think it shows the necessity of being in play off the tee.

you have just reminded me to book a lesson for driver/woods off the tee as slice is my middle name with them

Nice shooting aswell, do you think the extra distance/accuracy with the driver made all the difference or was it down tyo extra confidence also (as in you knew you were driving well and it transferred into your other clubs and general play)?

i think being in play from the driver and being closer to the pin was a massive help, confidence was there (but not too much), just knowing that i was swinging well to get the ball to fade or to go dead straight.
i hit a few iffy shots, topping the ball with my hybrid and 5 iron (lost 2 balls off the tee using 5 iron over an OOB section, oops), but was more than pleased to get 89!!
prior to my lesson i was happy with set-up and grip, but wasnt rotating my wrists in early enough to square the face, not saying it will be perfect all the time, but now know that i can do it, and do it more often than not!! BEST £35 EVER!!!!

Clearly you have never been to Amsterdam.

Seriously though I am really pleased for you it is the kind of step up I am looking to make in my game as I too struggle from a slice off the tee.

Well done again keep those numbers tumbling

oh, i have!!!haha.
for people in the same position, if you think set up and grip are fine, get a pro (or anyone with a camera that can slow down the frame) to film your swing, mine was picked up within minutes even though to the naked eye, all looked well. my coach russ thinks i could be a really big hitter by the summer. i went from MASSIVE sliver to driving around 270 in about 20 mins!
he thinks a stiff shaft will do me better in the long run, but sticking with reg for now to perfect before i ramp up the power.
keep it up and results WILL come, i know!!!
