Hi All,

looking for some advice, I recently had a fitting at the Scottish Golf Show with Benross on there HTX irons.

Just now I use MD STR 10 irons before that was Cobra Max 3 irons. During the fitting they used trackman but some of the readings seemed quite high, normally my carry distance for a 7 iron is 125, with total carry about 130-135 yards, however with HTX irons the carry was about 140 yards to total carry 155 yards.

They had fitted me to 1/2 shorter shaft and standard lie, so think that may have helped but would not have thought my distances would ahve jumped up that much.

Does anyone use Benross equipment and what are thoughts on the equipment.

Cheers
Graham

Several things can affect your numbers such as shaft flex and loft on the irons. The Benross irons may have stronger lofts or the shafts are better suited to your swing but either way the numbers quoted sound feasible.

As a brand, Benross make good clubs for the money

I've got the Benross Hot Speed 2 Driver and Fairways. The fairways were good enough to make me finally give up my much-loved Adams Titaniums

One thing I would say. I had fittings at the Scottish Golf Show and the fitting I got at the Callaway stand (by an AG bloke it transpired) was totally different to what I got at the Callaway fitting centre at St Andrews. If you are going for a fitting, get it done fully. Mine took 90 minutes.

The HTX irons have really cranked lofts, with the 7 iron coming in at 30 degrees.

Benross following Taylormade, Callaway and others with their iron offerings, in order to seduce a market obsessed with distance.

Also, beware of the 'generous' settings that Trackman might have been set to on the day.

Lastly, 15 yards of roll with a 7 iron sounds good, but when do you use your 7 iron to hit a fairway? What if you needed to hit a green at 150 yards but it had bunkers in front of it? You'd need to hit a 6 iron, but it might just roll off the back of the green- if the launch monitor data is correct.
