Played it again and I still don't see why it gets so much criticism. It's a great parkland track with probably the fastest greens you'll play on this year. It's in great nick.

I played it a few weeks ago with Liverbirdie, Slasher and my pal Louise. We all thought the course is very average until the 9th then it starts to get better with some decent holes on the back 9. As for the greens, I would say they are medium paced. I've putted on much quicker greens this year.

Yeah I agree with you but you just expect something a bit special about it.
Nothing really sticks out to me and that is memorable.
Even the 10th is fairly disappointing.

Still good old value for money and a great set up.

It's a decent course all set up for watching a good matchplay event - some good holes in good nick but for me so many more better courses to play

I think a lot of the issues in regards the time it takes to play because they fill it up plus it doesn't live up to the hype

It's certainly a course to play at least once

I'm a member and never get board of playing the brabazon but a would still agree that its an overrated course. However, when the course is set up with viewing stands and spectators the course looks drastically different. The 14th par 3 for example is probably the most bland hole on the complex. Fill it with spectors and it looks a different hole.
As for the greens, this year they've actually started rolling the grain against the slopes to help slow them down.

Courses are always down to opinion, Brabazon being no differant. A pit society went there and much preferred the PGA course. Me its not a patch on Bamburgh

I'm not talking the course up by any means and I'm not saying it's a top 5 course but for certain it deserves its place in the Top 100.

Course opinions are all subjective I get that but I don't understand the criticism. It's well manicured with a number of stunning holes and a few average ones too (agree about the 10th, it's not great).

I suppose the criticism probably comes of the fact people expect to be wowed due to its Ryder Cup history.

Anyway, I enjoyed it. D4S, greens were reading 12 on the stimp yesterday we were told, really slick when you consider how undulating most are.

Whilst subjective, and I haven't played it for a few years, my biggest gripe about it was that it could vary hugely depending on the amount of work being done and what it was either set up for, or being prepared for.

If this has now changed, and it's being constantly maintained to a high standard then excellent.

The layout always played better than it looked, which is obviously better than the other way round! but it's not very inspiring.

Always been in great condition when I've played it, especially the greens. Yes a number of bland holes, but some very good ones too. Well worth playing IMO especially if combined with the PGA and overnight stay.

I'd read lots of comments on here, so was looking forward to making my own mind up, about the Brabazon.

I enjoyed it overall, but I do understand some of the comments either way, but think that are mainly centred around value for money.

I believe "list price" is £160, which I wouldn't pay for it, but around £80 is not too bad.

Is it worth a weekend away, incorporating the PGA (haven't played the PGA, yet) for around £150 on an overnight stay deal - I'd be well game.

There are some well thought out, interestingly designed holes that more than keep your interest though, outside of the two "historical holes".

It's not VFM that's for sure, never worth £160. The Belfry resort itself is extortionate though. I don't mind paying a bit more than normal when in a hotel like that but £5.40 for a Guiness or £4.95 for a Starbucks coffee that is £3.45 in a shop is too much.

The bro in law has booked me and him a round here Wednesday week.

Is is there a handicap requirement to play the brabazon?

neither of us fully fledged members but play off 18 and 21.

We never got asked.

The starter may ask, just to "suggest" what tees to play off, but think you should be fine.

Played the Brabazon in July on the hottest day of the year and loved it.

Like others, I wouldn't pay £160 for it, but we paid £60 on a midweek deal and I would not hesitate on going back again.

We barely saw anyone on the course, it was like millionaires golf. The fairways were exceptional as were the greens. They were the fastest and most true I have ever seen - literally amazed by them. I read loads of negative comments before going so didn't know what to expect but after playing I really did wonder if these people had been to the same place!

I didn't play the PGA but would love to go back and play the PGA and Brabazon with an over night stay.

You should be fine, they even let women play off the championship tees
