Hello everyone,

New member and poster to the forum but I thought this might be a good place to pick up a bit of advice.

A group of three of us are looking at doing a golf break somewhere in England/Wales in the next couple of months and are looking at a nice but relatively easy place to play. Whilst were not exactly novices, our scores range from about 85 to about 130 and none of us have official handicaps. Given this, can anybody suggest any nice places to have a weekend where we can enjoy the course without loosing too many balls or holding too many people up. Between us we've only really played municipal courses to do date and are a bit nervous about biting off more than we can chew with a private course.

So far I've been looking at the Derby course at the Belfry but most of the package deals seem to be for 1 round of that and 1 on the PGA National which I think might be a bit challenging for us. Location wise were up for anything midlands/Cheshire/North-west/North Wales area.

Thanks in advance.

Farthingstone may be worth a look? Not been myself but I know people that have and from their description it would fit the bill. Think you get beer included in the price as well, which is always a bonus.

I would avoid the Belfry, you're right to think that the PGA will a bit challenging for those in your group who don't get close to breaking 100, and the Derby really isn't worth it.

I'm off this coming weekend with a real mixed ability group to Wensum Valley near Norwich. It's a very decent set up with 2 18 holes courses. Very friendly staff too and for less than £200 for 54 holes of golf and 2 nights DBB you can't go wrong.

Greetham Vallley caters for all handicaps and I reckon both courses are playable for most. Belton Woods certainly is suitable but I am not a massive fan of either course there

Thanks for the advice guys, Sorry I've not replied to anyone yet.

Belton Woods looks a decent shout - what's wrong with the courses there?

Some of the suggestions looks really good but possibily a bit far away - some of us are going from Greater Manchester and want to keep it to about a 2 hour drive.

Hill Valley, Carden Park or Hawkstone Park, all in hitting distance and not too difficult but should be very enjoyable. Plus think all of them have 2 courses.

Played the Lakes course at Belton Woods a couple of weeks ago and it is fine. Of course as the name suggests there is some water and you have to clear it on three or so holes to reach the green. But the fairways are quite generous. Plus when I was there there were some complete hackers there, so I would not worry too much about showing yourself up, the members play their comps in the mornings so they will have gone by the time you get on.

Any of the Macdonald's course's/hotels would be fine. We are away this weekend to Formby Hall which is a decent course, fairly testing because of all the water but you should be able to get round. £99 for DBB and 2 rounds.
