Having watched the Scottish Open today. I once again noticed a substantial number of kids begging as the players leave the greens.

Am I alone in thinking that lines of kids standing with their hands outstretched, shouting at all the players who pass, "Gies your hat, ball, glove, bag, driver, putter" is really quite tacky and horrible to listen to.

It is great that kids are attending golf championships and are able to see the stars of the game but to me begging and shouting and screaming for gifts is out of order.

I saw it, one girl got a visor and was right back up there for the next fourball coming off the course. Bit pathetic, if they wanted to genuinely give you something, get yourself diwn there and put on the big eyes, not beg for it.

Surely it isn't any different to back in my day trying to get a top stars autograph (cricket, football or golf). I wasn't adverse to using a bit of elbow to jockey for position to get a Botham, Keegan or a Faldo. What is different is that once we had the signature we never expected or asked for anything else. Maybe its just a sign of the me culture we live in but it is quite sad to see

It's worse to see it 'live'. Very often in the background is dad, mum or big brother urging them forward then stuffing their trophy into a bag as they send them back in for more.
I've even seen one kid berated by a charming parent for failing to get the trophy signed!

There's the next generation for you....The problem is in some ways parenting but also its like anything in life being nice will rarely get you where you want to go in this world at present....
The positive's i took from it was the little man with the cool cap that resembled the 18th green......
The wee man with his plastic club and ball....
Things like this is whats makes it great to watch.....

You cant blame the pro's in one sense for getting ticked off with the public....But its the public that are paying there wages and its a nice gesture for them to give whatever they feel like giving.......But i do agree the pushing and shoving for these momento's is OTT!!

If there is free stuff up for grabs there will be people willing to fight to get it, it'll only get worse if more money goes into golf.

When my son is a little bigger I plan to send him in for all the stuff. It'll save me getting balls, gloves etc.
We'll only go to the practise days and free events otherwise it'll kinda defeat the object.
It's not like those pros are paying for it or have a hard life so why not.

I only use Pro V1 x's so I'll get him to try and swap the other balls for a towel or something.
