Im a member of a 9 hole course at present. Reason being time. I get to play maybe 30 weekends a year and some summer evenings and as most of the clubs around where i live tend to be £1k a year plus, it doesnt make financial sense.
My 9 hole costs me £180 a year as a standard member and for that i get a congu handicap and it costs me £5 for 9 holes or £9 for 18. Its got good facilities like driving range, putting green, chipping green and practice bunker, the greens have been great this year and i get a county card that i use a lot to play the local courses at a cheaper rate.
Only downside is it is short with only 4 par 4s and the rest par 3s though that said my short game has improved greatly.
It was also a great way to join my first club i think. As i was newish to the game the last 2 seasons have got me used to playing in comps in a relaxed atmosphere to the point i wouldnt have any worries becoming a member at one of the larger clubs nearby.
