Nice idea in our Captains Weekend Sunday comp this morning. Format was teams of four with two best stablefords scoring. On our 3rd hole (175 yrd par 3) we each played one of our assistants. Entry was £2.50 per player. Pro played last. If a player beat the pro (gross) the player got a sleeve of Titleist Pro V1s. The entry fee went to the Captains charity. The Pro contributed the sleeves of balls to incentivise him - even more. 88 players attempted to beat the Assistant - only two (both ladies) beat him - so assistant only forked out for two sleeves - and £220 into Captain's charity

A fun little comp.

Had the same at our day too, was on our 17th that was playing 160ish into a small breeze and pin was tucked on the top tier. Pro said he'd been struggling with gusting wind then proceeded to hit it to about 6 feet which was more than plenty to beat all of us. 7 of 110ish players managed to beat him I believe

We are suspicious that our young assistant saved his worse two swings of the morning for two of our ladies :)

Much more fun the normal 'closest to the pin' we play on the hole in fun days.

Played a great version at Stoke Park many years ago on a charity golf golf day. The pro was parked there for the day and same as above apart from you got to choose his club for him!!! Hole was 160 yards or so and hed spent most of the day tapping a driver or smashing a sand wedge and fared pretty well. We chose 7 iron for him after thats what he said was the right club, on the basis he only had very fast or very slow swings up to that point. He duly missed the green left and 3 of us "beat" him :)

Why the Assistant and not the Pro?

Why the Assistant and not the Pro?

The Pro had other duties this morning and in following up from the comp on Saturday so couldn't spend 4hrs playing the 3rd with us, besides - many of us have lessons with the assistant who played (myself included) and so that added a little bit more fun and spice :)
