I was sent an email by the Shire/WLGC yesterday about this open event:

For those on phones and don't want to follow the link, it's a challenge for amateurs on the Ballesteros Masters Course, at The Shire London, from the back tees. Over 7000 yards, open to anyone with a handicap of 24 or under. I'm illegible to play (no H/C, couldn't get under 24 by 9th September anyway) but it sounds as fun as it could be painful and I'd love to hear everyone's tales after their round.

Not a bad offer. £50 (£180 for 4).

I have played it and some of it is just magic.

Interesting S shaped water on the last (S for Seve..)

Thought about playing it as a sort-of par 5, (420 yards?) but changed my mind and got over the water by about 2 yards. Tough off the very back tee no doubt.

Yeah it seems very good value, especially the four ball. There's a few different offers on their website outside of this tournament. As i said I can't play in it but would like to play there for a social game, I might have to buy an enormous amount of balls first though :D

I can say with some confidence that there will be other offers for The Shire from time to time.
It looks like water mayhem, but often you can't even see some of the ponds on the planner.
(probably for the best, too!)
