Hottest day ever in Glasgow yesterday, and two days in the high 20's in bonny Ayrshire.
Schools broken up and I have foolishly proposed a BBQ for the G'Kids tomorrow.

I haven't done one for nigh on 20 years....Lady Doon thinks they are an utter waste of time.

Got burgers chicken legs, sausages and pork chops

My two trusty fire things have been cleaned up [remarkably clean and even newish looking for their age] and I have my lump wood charcoal and fire starters

Any tips on modern BBQing gratefully received.....no weather jokes please as it looks like another stunning day.

Chicken cooked in oven finishes on BBQ

Charcoal white hot before you start - time for a beer or two

Burgers and sausages one of the worst things to BBQ but have them high and turn regularly. Same with the chops.

Try getting a load of chicken breasts and pork, cut into chunks and put on skewers, pork keeps chicken moist.

Halume chees, 1/2 inch thick in good size pieces and cook.

Greeck salad wine/beer and away you go.

You can do Veg kebabs with bits of pepper, courgettes, cherry tomatoes, haloumi cheese on skewers

Chicken marinated stops it from drying out and don’t forget the Jack Daniels BBQ sauce. 👍

A braai is no place for a banger or a burger. Whole cuts of meat!! Can never go wrong with steak or lamb. I always blast chicken in the microwave for 5 minutes before I cook it off on the braai.

If you have the chance to use hard wood for your coals then do so as it will just taste better.

Get some pork belly cut about half an inch thick. Crisp them up and eat them straight off the grill. Delicious. Put a few onions in foil and put them to the side of the coals while you cook the meat. They come out really sweet and soft.

The salads do make a huge difference.

Can't beat barbequed potatoes ...

Big tatoes, par boiled then cut into half inch thick slices. Then marinade overnight in olive oil, crushed garlic and as many herbs as you can be bothered to chop up. Then grill on the barby till softish in the middle & brown on the outside.... Yum.

Get some of those instant light bags of charcoal, use two bags. Hopefully your bbq has a lid, use it. It prevents spitting, flaming and helps the cooking. Turn the meat frequently, move them around the bbq as you inevitably get some parts hotter than others.

Enjoy it, bbq cooking is really sociable.

Without starting a sexist debate.. don’t let the other half near it! End up with everything on at once to “get it ready” with no cooking space and things ready at diff times

Damn right, I discovered this week that new potatoes boiled, then semi blackened on a bbq (add marinade of choice) are out of this world. They’re like mini jacket potatoes, it’s one of those “I could demolish a bucket load of them” type foods 😛

Absolutely no chance of that happening.

Thanks for all the replies, good reminders about skewers and cheese.

According to our weather forecast we are in for another 10 days of this heatwave, I had better watch I don't set fire to the garden.

This!!

Though you don't need all that faffing about imo - just make sure they are cooked!

And it is possible to cook eggs on a (plate!) BBQ without them disappearing down the drain hole! Cutting an 'egg-sized' hole in bread as a container does the job!
