This time next week the nominations for BBC Sports Personality of the Year will have been announced. Do you think any of the golfing fellas will be in with a shout? For me I'd like to see Darren Clarke or Luke Donald in there, but fully expect Rory to be there for the popularity vote. I'd be happy if any or all of these were nominated.

Also, in case anyone has missed it, Lauren Taylor has been nominated for Young Sports Personality of the Year. Congratulations and Good Luck to her.

Not gonna be popular on a golf forum but Cavendish should win this by a landslide this year imo

the fact that Clarke is 2/1 and Donald 50/1 sums up that this isn't decided on who deserves it on a purely sporting basis though, 4 good days is better than a good year if you believe the betting prices

Some golfers own bikes, Cavendish would be my choice too.

Cavendish would be my choice aswell.

I may be surprised but think it's unlikely as cycling isn't really in the wider public's consciousness. His achievements are exceptional though, and still years to go, god knows how many stage wins he's going to end up with in the Tour. Could win a good few Classics aswell.

Ok, if we are going down the non-Golfing choices then as a devote Glos Rugby fan I'd have to say that my bet is on Mike Tindall for SPOTY. ;-)

:D

The fact he's no longer in the elite player squad just means he can concentrate on club rugby. He's still got a few years in him at the level IMO. Experience will help if/when we make it to the semi's/final.

Absolutely Jon, IMHO his time in the England Squad was coming to a close anyway. I reckon on about 2 more seasons left in club rugby beyond this one. Would love to see him continue in a role at the club beyond that, but doubt that will happen.

Clarke might have a chance once the BBC play the sympathy vote (dealing with the death of his wife, loss of form, getting older). McIlroy will be nominated too

Luuuuuuke is a possibility as well having just lost his dad after winning the PGA Money list, but yes Clarke got the open and Rory the US Open so best all luck to them.

BBC Sports Personality Nominations 2011

Good to see three golfers nominated this year: Rory, DC and Luke. Nice if one of them won.

Oops. Didn't see a similar thread down below...

Sadly I predict no win for any of them irrespective of merit. Those who follow golf will split their votes between the three and someone else will win. Happened like that before.

Having 3 is great and indicative of the strength of British and European golf but the "golfers vote" will be diluted and I doubt any of them will win...
