I agree with the points made by the NAPGC rep that possibly too many courses were built in the 80's and 90's , also peoples lifestyle changes, less disposable income etc. etc.

However, none of that applies to Blue Mountain. The course was thriving both on and off the course and Crown did not run into any difficulties with it. More a case of ineptitude/mis management by the local authority and greed on the part of the developer/owner.
 
I just dont get the line of thinking that people are giving up golf cos its too expensive / takes too long so we need to make the hole bigger.

Yes, golf is hard. That's one of the beauties of the sport. Its by far the hardest sport i've ever played. But its also the most addictive because you are constantly pursuing the impossible. Take away that feeling when you bin a 25 foot putt (cos the hole is the size of a small county) and the game will be all the more poorer.
