I have been watching the BBC live coverage from 10am today. So far, I have seen a tour of Kent from the air in a chopper, a pop video made by some US players, listened to Monty and Paddy tell me about other Open holes and sat through countless more side stories that have been put together by the BBC to entertain.

I have absolutely no interest in any of this utter tripe. The biggest championship in the world is underway. The cream of golf is being tested on a very tough course in difficult weather and they are on the course now. Instead of broadcasting this, I am sat listening the Dan Walker ask Louis Ousthizen (sp) how many people get his name wrong these days.

What is wrong with these people? THe story is the live golf. The rest is hot air and garbage that they make to make their working lives more interesting as far as I can see....

Please can they put the golf on. The rest is irrelvant, self indulgent rubbish and they have been showing it for 1 hour and 11 minutes.

It is very poor by the BBC. Very poor indeed.

Edited to say that thanks to Dodger's post in reply to Murph (great minds and all that.....), I have now found the golf through the red button service.

Shame Mumsie Irvine didn't say at the start of the programme, "Welcome to over an hour of pure trash that we have for you here at Sandwich. If you want to actually watch some golf and not listen to our irrelevant inanity, then go to the red button etc........>"

Absolutely agree - we have seen most of it in the 'coverage', anyway. I dont know how many thimes I have sat through Monty and Paddy choosing their favourite holes.

Thanks for the reminder re the red button. It has been duly pressed!

Enjoy the arvo.

Matt

Thank heaven for the red button.

What I don't get is why the BBC think we want to see the peripheral rubbish. Let's face it, the only people watching are golf fans and we want to see golf. It's not even like the peripherals would be interesting to non golf fans so the only point of it as far as I can see is to give the presenters some air time.

Get the golf on the main channel and put the interviews and crap on the red button. I can understand showing this stuff when they take feeds from America or Sky and have to fill the advert gaps but the BBC have complete control over this so there are no excuses for showing anything but golf.

Completely agree about the slo-mo musical montage. Just awful. Always seem to coincide with when Jim is commentating which is awful too. The sycophantic drawl of the Butler Cabin brown noser is very annoying.

And he keeps saying he is just here on holday?! Really? Well clear off to Butlins then and get out of the commentary box.

I am assuming that all these things are tied in to some deal the BBC have done to sell coverage to the US networks. Not admirable from a public service broadcaster...

Good post.

The yank is doing my nut in.I always feel BBC's coverage is just so old school compared to Sky.I can't remember any of the commentators saying anything remotely technical.....golf has moved on but the beeb have not,it's just drivel after drivel, apparently Alliss picked up a fine gravy recipe from the radio this morning....jeeeeesus!

That yank is particularly annoying, how James manages to get a gig is beyond me can they not just leave it at alliss and brown?

Yes, +1

It's like buying a DVD blockbuster only to find you are watching the extras disk. :p

Message to the Beeb - commentary team of Allis, Cotter, Brown and Grady please, with Hazel Irvine as the anchor; ditch the Septic and dull-as-dishwater James. And please get some decent on-course reporters as well - Parkin and the scottish lady are poo!

Thank you!

If you dont like it, turn off the volume and put on radio 5.
Jeezzzzz the only major we have in Britain and all you lot have done is moan.
It's Open Championship Saturday and you're sat inside in the dry with your feet up.
Just enjoy it

A reasonable point Bob but one I disagree with.. R5 is just as bad as every shot they commentate on is treated as life and death.

Far better to get the Open radio channel with Rob Lee. You can get it over the web.

Brilliant commentary and in sync with the BBC pics.

Well my series link didnt pick up today so missed the first 45 mins _ not too sad about that looking at the above remarks. Maybe that was sky putting the boot in lol.

I kinda dont mind the off topic chat from time to time but I cannot accept coverage of Ricky Fowler putting his glove on for 2 minutes and adjusting his jacket when there are probably 40 of the worlds most in-form players on the course and they have no idea of how to switch up the coverage - its pathetic.

Rant over !!
