Never really played many online games on my old Xbox and preferred to stick to single player. My new Xbox one and some upgraded broadband have meant that I taken my first real steps at online play. So far I have stuck to playing squads on call of duty ghosts but I keep hearing that battlefield is the way to go if you want to put time into an online shooter.

So, for those in the know, which should I be putting my time into and why.

Battlefield is MUCH more tactical than COD (well it used to be anyway) I was playing Battlefield 4 last night for the first time on my nephews Xbox and think I might need to buy it now as it was pretty good, in saying that it was pretty similar to previous incarnations.

If you just wanna shoot people online (Americans with some luck) then turn off only to turn back on and shoot more people (or in my case, be shot) then COD. If you wanna get 'into' a game, then Battlefield.

BF4 is my choice but there have been and are issues with buggy online play when it comes to finding and joining matches... If you get it let me know and I'll add you on X1

BF4 over cod, I have cod and bored of it, the maps are too open so just a run and gun, great for an hr or so but thats it. I am about to trade cod in for BF4.

I had bf3, did not like the game play and hated the online stuff, never found any targets and was being sniped. COD is better regarding targets, but have to be honest here, the present one is poor regarding getting the gilly suits ( there are guys running around with them and you can't see them when the stop, but I cannot get one :( ) the other issue is when it's hardcore you should not have to empty a mag into someone to kill them. Also the dog is bullet proof, which is daft I know its quick but if a dog gets hit by a 9mm it usually stops ... Also the helicopters are too hard, you don't need a missile to nail a helicopter ( a large bird is pretty good) .. Oh well I suppose its just a game but I don't like all his fantasy stuff, I like some element of believability

Battlefield 4 on Xbox 360 for me and I love it. Xbox One is similar but the 64 player matches make it immense.

So many things can be done in battlefield to score well. You can be a medic, engineer, support or recon and still top the boards with hardly any kills due to actions each class allows.

Vehicles, maps sizes, game modes, etc etc. So much more than just a run and kill enemies game. Yet to find something more satisfying in an fps than taking out a helicopter with a well aimed tank shell or lining up cross hairs perfectly to get a head shot over hundreds of meters with compensation for bullet drop.

Forgot COD. I think that COD ghosts is one of the worse CODs they have produced. Played it for about an hour before it was doing my head in with some of the stupid upgrades you can do to guns. A thermal scope that can pick up people through concrete walls?...............................come on lets get real

For the gillie suit you need to have 850 kills with the sniper rifle with silver silencer on and it's what everyone is doing if you want a bit of gun and excitement play the infected game mode I'm on ps4 by the way

BF3 bored the pants off me after a while, the maps are too big for a game like this, I got fed up of getting shot and respawning 5 miles away with no vehicles about.
COD has tighter gameplay IMO, BF3 felt a bit loose. BF3 is more "epic" I guess but for a quick hours gaming session you can't beat COD IMO.

Thanks for all the comments.

Having spent a bit more time playing COD last night, I tend to agree that it is good for an hour or so at a time and I was enjoying a few games of Blitz but the time comes quite quickly when you realise that there is not much in the way of a tactical approach and most seem to run around as fast as they can and then it only becomes a matter of who is quickest to get a shot off. Having watched a few in game videos of BF4 on my Xbox one it seems a far more in depth experience so that is what I am going for. Appreciate the issue about large maps being empty but the new 64 player modes should help with that.

Anyway, my copy has been sent off for a trade in (trying a new company rather than getting ripped off on a trade in at GAME) so hopefully will be up and running on BF4 shortly. Will send out friends requests to those already playing it.
