Just after a bit of advice for courses around the Bathgate area. A few of us are heading up there later in the year for our annual "3 round 2 night stay for £100 weekend" and we have a few options of courses to play, so would appreciate any recommendations or reviews for courses in the area. The ones we are looking at are Bathgate, Linlithgow, Deer Park, Uphill, Pumpherston and Greenburn, but would consider any others nearby

Thanks in advance

Can you get Glenbervie? 23 mins away and lovely course

Glenbervie is a bit far, we were at Falkirk last year which would have been perfect but missed it somehow. We try to stay fairly local to where we are staying given the extended hangovers we are likely to have ;)

Agree with the above, lovely hit. Also check West Lothian GC, not a good hit from memory!..

Deer Park can be awfae wet underfoot if your up during the wet season :p but if its dry can be cracking.

Enjoy Linlithgow, I played it in early November and the greens were tip top, tight course..but enjoyable.

Uphall, 1st and 2nd use the same fairway so keep your peepers open on that one, always well kept and good bit of work being done on it.

Pumphy, well kept and some cracking wee holes, was a 9 hole course before being extended to 18..can notice it at certain point which im not the biggest fan of..just me tho.

Not played Bathgate so cant comment and I last played Greenburn in my teens so cant really mind what the course was like, pretty sure it was raining tho! ;)

Also Kingsfield Golf Centre, just a 9 hole but really tricky course.. its near Linlithgow.

All the above are pretty similar in price so you'll get a decent enough hit about for your money..

Thanks for that, we played West Lothian last year on the way up to Falkirk and really enjoyed it. Price wise there isn't much to choose between them all so any input is appreciated

When are you planning on going?

I'm a member at Pumpherston and its a great wee track, two very different and distinct marmite nines. The course has taken a lot of water (where hasn't) and is muddied just now, but a dry spell and some growth and it'll be cracking again.

Bathgate isn't in the best of nick just now, they're doing a lot of work on drainage and the greens so it'll be a wee while before it's fully recovered.

Deer Park has had a lot of remedial work done over the past 12 months, but it does get very wet.. decent enough track in the summer, but not so good at other times and can sometimes be quite scruffy.

Greenburn is a nice wee track but another that is best in the summer but Uphall was a mess the last time I played it with poor greens and fairway/rough almost indistuingishable from one another.

Harburn and Ratho Park are certainly worth a second look, as are Linlithgow and West Lothian.

I've a soft spot for Niddry Castle too, but that's only advisable if you like living dangerously as there's plenty of ammo getting fired about and you need your wits about you moving from hole to hole, but its a decent test.

Great insight thanks. We're not heading up until September so plenty of time but like to get things booked. I'll look into the other courses you've both recommended
