In the last couple of weeks I've been shocked at a couple of incidents when I have been playing with my wife, who is a novice golfer:

1. At Hoebridge, on the 9 hole course, someone decided to tee off with a driver on one of the short par 4s while we were playing our second shots - their ball pitched just short of us but skipped past us onto the green. No shout of fore just an apologetic wave when I glared backwards and shouted my annoyance

2. At the grass range at Drift, some decided that they could tee off from the mats, with their driver. Not a problem but the mats were 15 yards behind the grass tees! My fears weren't allayed when I saw him top and miss the ball. I had to yell at him....

why don't people know the basics of etiquette these days?

We had a three ball constantly hitting at our heels at Heron's Reach the other day like we were holding them up, even though we were a two ball, stuck behind another two ball, stuck behind 3 four balls.

And there are grass tees with matts 15 yards behind them? Seems like a ridiculous design to me if I'm understanding correctly haha.

Mats are not meant to be used when grass tees are in play! The guy had no concept of safety

Sounds to me more like beginners who wont yet know about etiquette than people being dangerous on purpose, did you explain in a nice manner and give them the benefit of the doubt and hopefully educate them or throw your hands in the air and shout aggresively at them?

a guy who i play a fair bit of golf with has no patience if its a bit slow and has often commented that if the group in front don't hurry up then he'll hit into/over them! i told him that if he does he's on his own for the rest of the round.
the ironic thing is is that if someone hits a belter in the group behind and it gets close to us/him he moans!

They never came close enough for me to say something - but common sense says you don't tee off on a 280 yard par 4 when the following group are only playing second shots. It's just dangerous

As for the guy on the driving range, he was swinging wildly and trying to hit the ball on the move off the tee - a sort of tiger trick shot - he was just messing around - it should have hit anyone of us on the mats, which is why we all yelled at him. Annoyingly his friend who was playing off the grass never said anything to him until a bunch of us yelled at him. This was a safety concern not an etiquette issue

Golf etiquette is something that seems to be overlooked more and more these days. Some people think it's a snobbery thing but of course, it's not that at all.
I think something like this video should be prescribed viewing for all new golfers, and a lot of existing ones.

Personally I'd have trouble hitting a ball 280yrd of a 300yrd cliff. :o

Joking aside though. If this is a regular problem, would it not make sense to make it a callup hole ?
The last club i was a member of had a couple. Always seamed to work well.
Just a thought....

Promise it wasn't me, I will walk up and hit drivers off the grass when it is mats only though

Don't understand the logic behind wanting to hit driver from the mats

Seriously doubt if anyone from the forum would do any of these things

I just think the guy was fooling around in front of his friend and didn't have a tee? He also had three friends laughing a lot and taking pictures of him swinging the club. It was a weird moment for all of us on the grass tees

Etiquette is not snobbery, as another forumer mentioned - it's the basis of our great game. It's a real shame that people don't place any emphasis on etiquette these days. It was something I learned when I was a junior member

It appears to be one of those things that is being sacrificed to try and attract new people to the game, when I started playing etiquette was almost as important as the rules, but saying that half of the golfers about now don't really understand them either.

I blame golf juice tv 😜

But as long as it's attracting more people to the game then it's all good 🙄
