Just been up at my club for a quick 9 holes (myself, sad I know) and from the 2nd tee was caught behind a pair of seniors.
Now I was playing fairly ok (only the one bogey and the rest pars) but wasn't going fast yet I was still being held up at every shot. The course was very quiet and not once did they offer to let me through, yes I could have skipped ahead but as I was only up for 9 I didn't see the point in losing a hole, they just tottered back and forward hacking from left to right.
Now I wasn't in a rush but surely that's just not on?
Finally, and my real gripe here, on their 18th, my 9th hole, they parked both bags right in front of the green (path to leave is behind to the right) and once putted out they VERY slowly dottered back to their bags where they stood ersing about for 9 minutes, yep NINE, I timed them from walking off.
Once clear they didn't even acknowledge I was there.
In the car park I went over and politely said "excuse me gents, but don't you think that you could have cleared the green side quicker?" to which one went off on one going on about youngsters that hit big harassing them by going too quick, I knew he meant me but not once did a shot of mine go near them, I don't hit that big and I ain't all that young in my mid 30's.

Anyone else think this behaviour (theirs, not mine) is out of order or is it just me?
:rant::sbox:

Yep, totally agree with you. Should have reported them to the Pro/Secretary. Standing chin-wagging with no consideration for others on the course is simply a lack of common decency.

Just fecking muppets. Probably been there forever so think they can pretty much do what they want. Every club has its share.

Thing was Del, they weren't chin-wagging, they were pi$$ing about with their bags... not once did they look up the hill to see if anyone was there (although they obviously knew I was behind them)

Sounds like they were deliberately holding you then, probably didn't like the perceived impatience of the youth (to them you are) behind them (and blame you for every bad shot they hit), regardless of the fact you never rushed them by playing close. They either
A. don't know a 1-ball has as much right as 2,
B. are too stubborn to let anyone through (the "this is our course" mentality that drives me bonkers) or
C. are the kind of old farts that give the majority of very considerate more senior gentlemen a bad name by being downright ignorant.

I would have reported them, surely you're not the only one who would have noticed them at the front of the green for that long, I'm a fairly laid back person but this sort of thing really irritates me, a complete lack of consideration and basic manners. Angry face.

I have been quite fortunate and never come across anyone like this at my place, most members seem pretty clued up on etiquette etc. I'd have stood on the 18th fairway watching them fart about with their bags and made my mind up on what I was going to do about it....either tell the pro or not bother telling the pro and fired my ball onto the green, that would have sorted them out.....although you'd have probably been the one to get the rollocking from the pro then.

People like this really piss me off, like I said, I haven't really come across anyone like that at my club yet but plenty of them in general day to day life, the idiot who stands at the till counting every last penny of his change whilst holding everyone else up or the worst one is the obnoxious idiot who thinks it's his right to skip the queue at McDonalds because he forgot to ask for ketchup. No consideration for others what so ever.

Just phoned the Pro and I wasn't the only one to complain. Apparently two other guys were held up on their front 9 and ended up walking off. The two old geezers were visitors and the Pro is going to have a word when they leave the clubhouse.
Been at my club for 3 years now and know the ones that have the "it's my course" mentality so can avoid them if need be.
Pro said it must have taken them nearly 5 hours to play 18!

Glad you got "closure" even if it is a horrible word.

Ould gits.

That is just not on. I am one off the "old gits" but still move at a fair pace. When on my own, if someone is faster(not likely, but). I will let them though. Or as often happens, get an invite to play. The rest of the round, as a 2 or 3 ball. Just no need for bad manners.

Welcome to my world

I posted a thread on this at the start of the week about it taking 3 hours to do 9 holes due to a similar situation.

Thankfully my club did something about it once reported.

Yeah, agree with all of that.

Unfortunately there are some, who will not let anyone 'play through' - if it were me, I would happily let a faster player through, as I hate having someone else watch me make a fool of myself!!!

:D

nothing more annoying on the golf course when senior members think they own the place and are so stubbern they pretend not to notice you until they think they see something your not allowed do i.e. hit a shot back into play from OB even if your playing a knock about.
