Morning all

Happy Friday n all that.

Something that has always made me smile playing golf is the amount of people that wear baseball caps whilst playing. Even if its overcast and cloudy.

I've always wondered if people wear them because that's what the pros do?

I only rock one when it's raining....so for those that wear them, why?

Missing a voting option for me!

I personally wear one out of habit. I like to wear one when it's sunny, and when it's rainy, so it makes sense to wear one on the few days it isn't either of these!

I don't wear one for most of the year but in the depths of winter when the sun is low I do wear one from time to time to keep the sun out of my eyes.
From what I've heard several people I play with say it helps them to concentrate on the ball by taking out distractions in their peripheral vision others because it help keep sweat from their bald heads off their face.

  1. It keeps my head warm on a cold day
  2. It keeps the sun out my eyes on a sunny day
  3. It helps reduce glare into my eyes when at address
  4. It shields my view from unwanted distractions
  5. It keeps the rain off on wet days
  6. in my dreams it provides great advertising space at 100K per square inch of hat.

Same for me, I feel weird playing golf without one. I feel it focuses your vision as well which makes it easer to pick out and focu on your taget.

Assume all that wear one were custom fitted by their pro?

A couple of the 'positive' options missing.

Keeps Sen/Rain out of eyes/head.
Keeps glare out of the eyes so I can identify which tree or patch of rough/heather ball is in.

Its for the sun, its pigging relentless, so no cap and often its a case of not being able to track the ball in flight

No voting option for me as well.
I wear one the keep the sun out of my eyes and the rain off my glasses.
Playing in Scotland my hat it is therefore on and off more times than a lady of the ill repute's underwear.

I do have one issue with my hat though.

I got it at the same time I treated myself to my new irons, 3W and hybrid (G25's). Without realising, it says G25 in big letters on it. Am I now too branded? I feel that this is "all the gear, no idea", which is only backed up by the way I play.

Will I play better if I jump ship to a Titleist hat? Or even a Srixon, to suit the balls I tend to hit/lose?

And don't even get me started on what wooly hat to wear!

I recently played without a hat, forgot it, in very strong sunshine.
I had to walk off after 15 holes as I felt as if I were going to collapse and I was a few hours recovering at home.
Players of all ages wear them on our course but I mostly wear a Tilley as do many others.
It keeps my head cool and dry and protects my specs in rain.

I haven't voted as I think the options are, well.... facetious.

It gives me something to throw on the floor and jump on, when I stick another one into the bundoo

as opposed to kicking my trolley or snapping clubs (no names, no pack drill) :)

Occasionally wear one - prefer to wear a bunnet - a la Hogan :)

When I do (either rain or sun) from the start, I'll generally keep wearing it even if conditions change - especially if I am playing OK.

Any chance of a mod adding a couple more options to the poll please?

- to keep concentration
- to keep sun/rain off my face

Think some people have taken this thread a little too seriously. Seems like everyone wants a fight these days
