Attempted to have our first BBQ yesterday but was using last years charcoal and it took ages to light and even longer to get up to temp to cook, by which time we'd done it all in the oven or grill.
So now considering getting a gas one (Q long miserable summer).

so are they better or worse than cremating food over a sold fuel cooker.

Over to you .......

Ticked gas but neither, if it's just me and Missis T getting snoggy snoggy, then the tempinyaki grill is out. Far better than fannying around with a Barby. For a group, then the Barby is out. Bought a massive Gas Barby a few years ago and it is far to big.

We bought a gas BBQ. 3 burners + ring. Buy a gas BBQ and then buy some lava rock to sit on a mesh above the burners. We cook on it about 3x times a week from April/May through to Oct/Nov.

we got a 4 burner Gas about 4 years ago we us it at least twice a week in summer, esp for Steak. Even us in in winter for steak too, but i get the wife to do that;)

far quicker and easier. no loss of flavour either ;)

Big Green Egg, when you're finished cooking & close the vents it goes out so you reuse part burned charcoal every time & top up as required.
It takes 20-30 mins from lighting to whatever temp I need & the flavours from a BGE or similar smoker are not possible in any gas bbq/cooker.

A barbecue involves charcoal; if it involves gas it's an outdoor grill. It might be a posh grill with lava rock, but it's still a grill. End of.
weve got some funny looking gizmo you stick charcoal and wood chippings in, i can't tell the difference in taste TBH, burnt meat always tastes the same weather its on a gas grill or Charcoal;)

I've got a gas with lava rocks..... For convenience it wins, but the taste is nowhere near a charcoal BBQ.

Next time I'm going old school.

How easily is it to clean a gas ?
We've a kettle bbq and it takes almost as long to clean all the stuff up after using it as it does cooking time.
