Banning Adidas Adizero

I got stopped today by the club marshall who basically said my Adidas Adizero's are leaving indentations in the greens because of the spikes on them, and that it is happening with a number of other members.

He mentioned that there is likely to be a notice out this week banning them, and said he knew of several other clubs on the south coast that have done the same thing.

Anyone heard of similar stories?

Luckily for me I have a new pair of shoes in the post, and happy to ensure I play my part in looking after the course, but I was quite surprised nonetheless!

I'm a Greenkeeper by trade buddy and believe me when I say it ain't just 'Adizero's' that leave indentations but spikes and cleats in general, no matter what you wear they're gonna leave indentations and not just at this time of year either 'cleats' are just as bad during the summer !...

Ps; I wear 'Astro-Turfs' most of the year !...👍

Was talking about this today. I played yesterday at my old club and one of our group (the club captain, of all people!) was wearing the original Adizeros. With the ground being so soft, the mess that he made of every single green was actually embarrassing, by about the 7th his best friend was telling him to take the things off and play in his socks! When he walked across someone's line it left a virtually impossible putt.

I've got a pair from 2 years ago that are virtually pristine, I ended up not wanting to wear them. Not sure I agree with Face Breaker that all cleats are the same, all 4 of us left some marks yesterday with the greens this soggy but the difference with the Adizeros was very very noticeable.

Club Capt should know better than to walk across/through someone else's putting line 'always walk around' it's just etiquette, as for the cleats issue it'll depend on the firmness of your greens but as a Greenkeeper I see the damage they leave day in, day out !...

I think much of this is down to golf shoes being designed for warmer climates and firmer conditions in this country. The spikes, the level of waterproofing, both becoming unsuitable for winter golf. My adizeros only come out in the summer now

The adiZero range was dropped from the adidas UK range in 2014 although it is still available in the Far East.

I have both the original and One versions and never noticed any issues on greens I have played on. However plenty have commented on here that on soft (poor??) greens they leave larger marks than other shoes.

I have said this before on here re my adizeros, they make me look slimmer, I feel sexier in them and they weigh nothing.

BUT, after 18 holes walking in them I am paralysed from the ankles down, my feet feel like they have been chopped off. the mess they leave on the greens is horrendous. I played Anahita and il aux Cerf and literally tiptoed around the greens.

The general feeling with adizero was when there good people love um, and when there bad they are banned. What I cannot understand is why adidas did not privede some alternative less damaging cleats (free).

Had a pair of the originals in hibernation. Took them out about two months back and wore them for one round, the marks I left were so bad I took them home and threw them in the bin.

You should have worn mounded soles in Mauritius 😀

I played Anahita wearing adiCross

IMHO the issue with the Adizero's is that the spikes are mounted on raised platforms (a bit like old football boots).
As a result the spikes go further into the green before the sole settles on the ground.

If you compare that to other brands (e.g. Footjoy) the spikes fit more flush with the sole.

I've played with people wearing Adizero's on soft greens and the mark the green substantially more than other shoes.

Got a pair for Christmas, couldn't get them on due to small fit even though they were a half-size larger than my existing FJs... took them back and exchanged them for a different pair.

You are spot on; that is exactly the problem with them.

On the sizing issue, when I played football Adidas boots were always much tighter fitting for a given size than other makes, so much so that I had to go up a size to wear them comfortably, and even then they tended to be too narrow! :(

Adizeros should be banned for aesthetic reasons anyway, because they look more like football boots than golf shoes!

Not sure if you have noticed but that ship sailed a long time ago, it is what most golf shoes now looks like, football or AstroTurf boots

The last time this topic was debated, some Adizero owners said that if the greens where wet and soft enough for their shoes to leave marks on them they should be closed! Well I for one don't want to play on temporary greens unnecessarily, just because some players are wearing unsuitable shoes that look like football boots, with long protruding cleats! The traditional makes of golf shoes such as Footjoy do not cause these problems.
