Evening gents, been using srixon ad333 for a while now, but now looking for something that generates a touch more "stop" for the firmer greens, what are you all using? Don't want to break the bank, paying £15 a dozen for the srixons, looking to spend up to £20 a doz

Not sure if it would be what you are looking for but have you tried Wilson dx2 soft? There in the price range.

Following on from reviews on here and elsewhere online I've tried Dunlop DP1-V3 ( note it must be the V3s, there's others in the shop that are cheaper and probably like hockey pucks) which are £20/dozen in sports direct. I get better spin with them than I do with srixon z-stars. Was previously a golf ball snob of sorts but was really impressed with the dunlops.

as others have said the Wilson dx2s have a soft feel, and are reasonably priced. There are also places online where you can get Wilson staff fg-tour balls which provide excellent spin but do cut up quite a bit.

next time I'm buying balls I think I'll give the Wilson dx3s a go.

Depends on how proud you are but you can pick up a dozen anything as grade A one-hit-wonders from eBay for about that money.

Having said that, the Call Hex Black deal above looks great value as these are great balls (but I think they do seem to wear prematurely compared to others)

Just bought a dozen of the DP1 but the older clearance version. Still a three piece urethane ball. The V3 is replacing it but at £12.99 a dozen I thought the DP1 would be worth a punt and I have seen it gain some favourable reviews. Did have a look at the V3 in store. Very soft cover on them and I'm convinced they would good but the golf snob in me would sooner spend a few quid more and get a more respected brand.

Wouldn't overlook the V2. It is a urethane skinned 2 piece and is likely to be better than a comparable priced 2 piece ball. The NZ9 V2 and V3 seem to be targeted straight at the likes of the AD333 and the DX2/3 range but the DP1 V2 would probably provide a little more bite thanks to the softer cover.

Normally this is the point I would also say Wilson FG tour blemish but they are like hens teeth now hence my willingness to try the DP1. Will feed back when I try them.

The Wilson Staff FG Tour blemish are still out there but only in yellow. I've just got some and having never used yellow balls before wasn't sure I'd like them but at £13.50 a dozen I soon got used to it.

I went into our local shop and asked exactly the same question, was recommended the Callaway CXR control, which at £11.99 pd were cheaper than the AD333 and they've seemed pretty decent on the course.

I've been using AD333s for a while now, but picked up some Dunlop NZ9s from Sports Direct for around £10 per dozen. With the Srixons I normally get a fair bit of run with my wedges, but the Dunlops were stopping dead, which was strange. Have a try, in my opinion they can't be beate for the money.
