moving on from the refinished balls thread what balls do you all play and why.

Me i am using cheap balls until i get a bit better then get some good ones to use, so i am interested in your opinion.

I have played good balls and really like the feel of soft ones but how much distance do you think you loose using soft compared to distance balls?

Titleist Prov1's, I used to prefer the maxfli revolutions, back before they stopped produciton of the softer ones and began making Titleist solo like balls.
The prov1's have a reliable spin and feel especially round the edges of greens, you can stop them faster in confined run out areas ie when theres a bunker between you and the hole then danger behind the flag. Harder balls just dont get the same grip/spin off wedges etc and will run out the bit further, usually away from where you wanted them to stp.

I used Srixon Soft Feel during the summer and quite liked them, but am trying Callaway Warbirds at the moment. I m getting quite a bit more distance, but they seem quite hard round the greens. Am going to try AD333s or NXTs next and see if i can get a bit more ditsnace than the Soft Feel and stil get reasonable feel around the greens.

are prov1's classed as a soft ball or a hard ball or are they supposed to be a intermediate ball

They tend to give you more feel and control around the green so i suppose you would class them as being soft.

This year I used Warbirds and got the distance but lost feel around the greens so I bought 3 boxes of AD333 and they are far better around the green and I feel I have more control in my long game.

Taylor Made Black are for me.

For the guys talking about trying Srixon balls I think they are excellent, was using the Z-urs last season, only complaint was that they scuff far too easily!

AD333 and soft feel are outstanding value.

I did quite like the soft feel and got them for the same price as warbirds at my local golf shop. He's also got AD333's at £14 a dozen, so am definitely giving them a go when the weather bucks up.

You can get 3 dozen AD333 for £40 with free p+p on fleabay and they are 2008 model not 2007.

I'm in the same position as geronimo, moving up from lake balls to something more consistent.

As a back-up I have a box of Warbirds, which seem well recommended but I'm trying Wilson Deep Reds (AG have a 2-for-1 deal on) but I'm really not sure what to expect from them. Anyone know?

The Warbirds are great for distance and can become very addictive, but they are very hard around the greens, not to bad in this weather but you need a ball for all year round.

The above may or may not be true :p
