I want to try stick to one ball, see if it makes any difference, don't want to pay pro v prices just something mid price range, any suggestions for a good, decently priced ball amongst the hundreds on offer?

Maxfli noodle is a great ball and at a tenner a dozen would be my choice for a beginner.

I use teh Wilson Staff DX2 Soft, £15 a dozen and just as good as a pro-v in my eyes.

Have tried the Ad333 and think it is terribly overrated.

I buy reasonable balls that are on offer,Ive never found any benefit from a specific make or type or cost that reduces my h/c if you are a high h/c player Im sorry to say but you are unlikely to have the skill or feel to get any real benefit from a particular ball, many may think they have that ability but most cases are wishful thinking, its unlikely. Ive seen very little evidence from high h/cappers during play that promotes a particular ball otherwise I would buy them, any reasonable standard ball from most manufacturers should serve you just as well until you reach a higher level of ability.

Before anyone jumps up and down, I didnt say ALL high h/c players.

I'm going to recommend W/S Dx2 soft.
at £15 for a dozen they are nicer to putt with than £10 a dozen balls.
Somewhat unusually, I'm going to agree with herb.....charactertistics/feel/spin etc. is probably best left for the really good players to decide on.
I like the Dx2 soft for 2 reasons, equally long off the tee (compared to Titleist distance brands) and nicer on the greens.
I bought a packet of the Dx spin, but as the greens have gone all mushy, I can't really say if they are stopping better. I was hoping for a tad more bite to see if I could go for close cut pins over bunkers with wedges (which I don't often try!!)

Have to admit that I really like the Srixon Z-URS. Not cheap, but cheaper than Pro V's. Most on here would say that it's above my ability level, but I do notice the difference in it when compared to the AD333. I just like the way it works and feels with the putter and wedges.

Will probably try the Srixon Trispeed for the winter though as they're a little cheaper, and allegedly straighter.

I generally don't get on with 'distance' balls as they always seem very hard to me.

But don't listen to me. I know nurthing! And I'm probably using the wrong ball anyway.

I say use what you like hapless...

I remember the early days of graduating from 6' to full size snooker table. The balls in the club were shocking. Soon, we started to ask for the better sets....our scores probably never improved, but there's nothing more reassuring (in golf) than playing with a new ball and you may as well spend £1.50 each than 75p.

In my heyday, I bought large packs of Arnold Palmer ti balls. They were inferior to today's balls, but my best ever rounds were played with these or Titleist PTS distance.

Titleist are a favorite of mine, but I only buy new ones when they are on offer, you only have to wait till a new ball comes out and they want to get rid of stock lol (TIGHT SOD? YEP!)

I bought a box of the Srixon AD333 and quite liked them. Just bought another 2 doz from American Golf; worked out to just over £1 a ball delivered to my door 3 days later. Losing a £1 ball doesn't hurt as much and with all the leaves on the course losing a couple of balls is almost guaranteed!

To me, losing a ball is loosing a ball. It is not about cost, it is loosing something shiny, and the damage it does to your score. I hate loosing balls, it is like an admission of playing rubbish golf.

Like you was wondering about golf ball types for high handicappers as i've just started playing. Looked up the wilson dx2 which a few guys highly recommended and found them for £33 for 3 dozen(3 for 2). Just type in wilson dx2 into google and the site is near the top(sorry don't know the rules on naming golf shops). Think i'll be giving them a go, should last me a round or two.

I use the AD333 and can not knock them for price and quality, I have used the Dx2 but found them decent but not of the quality of Srixon, but as with everything its horses for courses, I was even thinking of buying some Warbirds for the winter period to get me those lost yards of roll, I think Online Golf is selling them at £15 for two dozen which is very good in my eyes.

I tried the DX2 and really liked it but at the moment I am losing just too many balls so use the Titleist NXT from Argos at 18 quid for two dozen.
I did try the donnay's but although it saves money I just found them too cheap and nasty.

Use the AD333 and have also tried the Srixon Distance which I quite like only £9.99 per dozen in AG.

Like my balls fresh out of the packet so never really used a lake ball are they any good?

I find the a grade lake balls ok, I only buy the NXT's and out of each 24 pack I find 2 or 3 have a mark or scuff so I use them for putting and chipping practise.
Overall I find them a better choice than say the donnays or x flite or noodles.
When i am not loosing so many I will probably go to brand new like the Dx2 or AD3333 but for mo find them perfect.

I probably have 30 or 40 balls lying unloved in my car/shed/bags, stuff I tried and didn't like so much. All good balls, for sure, but not "first on the tee".

I reckon I'll use these up over the winter.....it's amazing how often I lose balls in all those leaves. SO frustrating....I can go for months in the summer without getting close to losing a ball (lake bombers aside) and then once the ground is covered in leaves, I'm thinking provisional everytime I'm off the fairway.
ARGHHH

I might even use up the Srixon green once the winter mats are back in play.

Hmm, leaves. I had forgotten leaves. Playing tonight, and it could be the first outing of the season with lots of leaves. And I took a load of balls out of my bag last night too. Bit of a mistake that. Only got new proVs in there now, and not many of those either.
