I am still seeking the right ball for my game, but with so many balls on the market I am finding it difficult to narrow down the choices. I would appreciate any recommendations for a swing speed of 80 - 85 mph, with my poor shot being a slice. I am currently using Titleist NTX Tour S, but have used Callaway Chrome Soft in the past.

TIA.

There is no right or wrong answer.

Play whatever ball you feel most comfortable with and can afford. Maybe grab a few sleeves of various balls and test them. Starting with putting, then chipping, pitching, irons and finally driver.

You will soon get a list of people saying that using 'x' ball gained them 20 yards over using 'y' ball, but, quite frankly, the ball won;t make that much difference. Even Titleist say there is only about 5 yards between their hardest and softest ball, which is relatively negligible.

All personal preference

That's the point. I can't afford to buy a box of each to try out, and I can't try them on the driving range anyway, so I'm looking for recommendations based on my swing speed in order to narrow down the field to a few models which I will then try out on the course for the long game and pitching/chipping practice area & putting green for the short game.

AD333 tour or none tour version.

Golf ball 101 stuff

Most people should start with a normal AD-333 then try other balls to see what works better.

I did and ended up with my best ball being a Wilson staff FG tour

I think you should be able to narrow your choice down to 3 or 4 balls and pick up a sleeve of each for about £6-7 each.

Look at the likes of AD333 and Tour version, E6, Supersoft, DX2 or 3 and even balls like the Dunlop 3 piece that is sold in SportsDirect for next to nothing.

You are looking for an answer that doesn't exist.

Srixon AD333, Wilson Staff DX2, Titleist DT TruSoft are all balls that I lîke to hit, chip and putt.

The DX2 is often available at £20 for two boxes, so when they're on offer, I pick some up. Probably my favourite ball.

You may or may not like these, only you can tell.

I play to about 24, and I would say the long game. Lack of control off the tee leading to losing shots by having to just get the ball back into play, and missing greens width mid to long irons

believe me mate you have bigger fish to fry at the moment. ball selection isn't going to make the differences that some on here claim. just buy any decent two piece ball.

the only time golf balls make a noticeable difference is control on the greens. even then you need great contact to get a predictive outcome. even off a 7 handicap i still never consistently strike a pitch or chip.

also, if your missing greens left or right the chances are you're chipping out of the rough. its hard to get control of any ball coming out of the rough

Seriously, you could use anything from the most expensive to a cheap range ball, it would make zero difference, there are way bigger factors at the moment.

A lot of those on youtube that do ball reviews advocate starting at the green and working back from there. Find a ball that feels nice off the putter, gives you the feel and control you like on chips and pitches and then go out to 100, 150 and then a driver. To be honest even between the main premium balls and then the main mid-range balls I doubt for the handicap golfer there would be too much change in performance from make to make so it surely has to come back down to personal feel

Stay away from premium balls. You don't have the swing speed to compress the ball (and therefore get the most from it) and given the designed spin they have that also includes side spin - not so great if you don't have control of the tee.

2 piece balls IMHO are best suited to your game - as long as you are happy with run out on the greens or approaching some greens. You will get less side spin of the tee, a little more distance (compared to premium balls) and in my experience more distance of mid/long irons/hybrids.

I am not in the camp that all balls are similar. I find significant differences at all points of the game.

2 of the best in the category I recommend are the supersoft and the DX2 - both excellent balls and you don't loose as much feel with the short game as you do with other cheaper balls. Recommend you buy used balls too as they perform identical for half the price

the 2 you mention are good balls
to me the most important is feel off the putter, then wedge
the best way to get balls to just go and look for them when its quite
i find hundreds, and have boxes of good balls that i use, but having changed putters again, i have gone to favoring the callaway supersoft and playing pro v1 grey all winter
wilson are doing good balls at moment, but with me its putter feel everytime

Titleist DT trusoft, Mark Crossfield had some good reviews on it.

I had a mess about with three and they were decent, but sceptical of the control around the green though. Definitely I good cheap ball.
