Im playing my first foursomes match in the somerset bowl with my regular playing partner. The thing is we both like different styles of ball. I play the chrome soft and he plays TM tour prefered x balls. I find the TM a bit clicky but he finds the Chrome soft too soft. So without buying loads of balls to try can anyone recommend a ball that maybe in between the 2? Im using 2015 Chromesofts and ive heard the 2016 are a little firmer so that could be a good shout but ive never really used any bridgestones or srixon so cant compare. I have tried the AD333 Tours but my playing partner doesnt like them so any info would be good.

This is a tricky one, I find myself in a similar situation. The NXT Tour S is soft enough for a 2 piece, can pick them up on ebay (Pearl or Mint) for peanuts.

We had a think about it and came to the conclusion that the ball that suits the better player is the one we should play. Not sure if that helps?!

Pro V1, Project (a), Z star?

I'd put those pretty close in softness to the Chrome soft - softer in fact. He needs something not quite as soft as a Chrome Soft, but not as clicky as a Tour Preferred.

Tricky.

Seriously, it's not an issue unless you're both good enough to play on TV.
Don't play a ball that neither of you normally use, just choose one and get on with it.
Your reason for using his "a bit clicky" is the least tangible, use his.

Why don't you play your Chrome soft when you're teeing off and he plays his Tour Preferred x when he's teeing off? I honestly don't believe that at club golfer level it makes enough difference to be of any consequence whatsoever.

Ryder Cup players would use the two balls you are using and just pick one of the two. Either is fine and there is not that big of a difference between the two, not like one of you is using a Warbird, Velocity or some other god awful rubbish.

Yes. I recommend you get over yourselves. ;)

I've shown my playing partner the replies and he said that's why he will not join the forum 😜

Didn't you take this into account before choosing your partner? :D
No I just thought being the lower handicapper by 1 **** he would use mine. But he said no and he's bigger than me 😉

Well we have taken heed of all the advice and on our next knock about we are playing match play to decide on his colicky balls or my soft ones. Thanks for the replies 👍

I would suggest that you use one of his balls and he uses one of yours then discuss the results afterwards.

But as others have said, are you really good enough to tell the difference? :ears:
