How important do we think a good quality golf ball is to our game or is it a con about some balls being better than others.

Personally I think it's very improtant.

A ball is the only piece of equipment you use on every hole, so it follows choosing a good ball that suits your game.

Pro V1 for me :D

Depends on the conditions I guess. Played Hanbury Manor yesterday and had to stop using Mizuno D201 balls as iron shots to the middle of the green kept running out the back.

Put a z star into play and it was never more than 5 feet from its pitch mark - when I hit the green :)

The greens were firm and fast, so at our course it may be a different story

What utter rubbish.....what about tee pegs and gloves?? It is just as important that you are fitted for them as well as your ball ;)

Putter.........????

i agree though a quality ball does make a difference, and breeds confidence.

Pro V1 for me too.

Those who don't wear a glove, knock up a bit of turf for a tee and then chip in every time they get near the green need none of these costly additions......:clap:

There is one on every forum........

For me and my handicap I'll use whatever is on offer/anything under £10 per dozen. The main reason being is that I don't believe I'm good enough or experienced enough to get the most out of a pro v1/z star.

A £3 ball that goes into the river/lake is worth less than a 50p ball that lands on the fairway.

My take is that if you're good enough to exploit the value of a pro v1 then you're probably good enough to have them bought for you.

.... is it a con about some balls being better than others?

you define 'better' and it will be easier to provide a constructive answer.

there are balls that will react differently, possibly over a range of shots...

there are balls that will feel different, possibly over a range of shots as well!

finally, all balls are a compromise somewhere - generally speaking the more complex the construction and the tighter the manufacturing tollerances the less compromises and higher price will be associated with the ball.

it's not rocket science (well some of it is :))

Shot 73 today with a combo of Dunlop Tour, Noodle and Nike PD SFT....

Just sayin'........
+1. Way too much focus/blame goes on balls its untrue. People on this forum say stuff like "it feels nice off the face" . I played with a guy off the euro tour and he hit his ball Into the green and said "i just love the feel of these new pro v 1's, just look how it checked" little did he know he'd just played my nxt tour!!!!!!!!!!! That spoke volumes to me.
