Ball fitting - weird results

I use a prov1 have done for 2 years mainly because a friend of mine managed to get me 6 boxes for a very silly price. Today our club held a fitting with Bridgestone and for my own curiosity decided to take part.

We only used the driver and with my 5 drives I averaged 111 Club head speed 151 Ball speed 2703 spin total distance 280.

The fitter then recommended B330s

The next 5 shots all struck around decent areas gave me same club head speed but ball speed down to 146 and spin went up to 3340 total distance 267. The fitter was genuinely stunned and just gave me a sleeve of balls but said if he were me I shouldnt change anything.

Has anyone else come across similar results? Everyone else at the club except our pro was better suited to a Bridgestone ball. I would have thought this type of thing was geared to me switching balls.

If you were to do a Titleist fitting, I believe they focus on green to tee, so they would be looking at your putting, then chipping, then irons, then driving, in that order to see the results.

I am entirely speculating here, but perhaps the B330s are much more of a distance focused ball, so might be great off the tee, but not as receptive close in.

So your club held a Bridgestone fitting and everybody except the pro was better suited to a Bridgestone? Who would have thought? I wonder if the same thing would have happened during a Erixon or Titleist ball fitting day?

As far as I am concerned, within comparative ranges, most modern golf balls have negligible difference in performance. if you compare a Pro V1X versus a Mizuno MP-X and a TM TP-X and the comparable Erixon, Callaway and Bridgestone, I doubt there would be any durable difference between them.

I think you guys may have misread my post although it isnt 100% clear, the first 5 were done with a Prov1. I lost 13 yards using the bridgestone. Which is why I was querying if this had happened to anyone else at a ball fitting.

Ohhhhh.... I seeeeee! Well there is a reason titleist are the number one ball on tour! :)

Did you only try one of the b330? If I remember right there's s few different models of that ball?

We have had a couple of people with extremely high swingspeeds come out better with the Provisions but, generally, average Joe will come out better with an RX or E6.

The 330 and 330S have a lot in common with the ProV (too much about 7 years ago) and it's going to come down to a match to the driver spec for top players such as yourself ie you, your swing and your club spec combined with the ball. Around the greens there isn't a lot in it between those models.

Tried the two main versions that were the alternatives to the Prov1 and Prov1x. Fitter was convinced I should be getting more out of those balls but the results dont lie.

I felt a bit sorry for him truth be told as he was genuinely stumped.

I just can't get on with Bridgestones, I have a new love-in with my TM Tour Preferred

And we all know that reason is they pay more players to play their balls than other manufacturers do... ;) :P

And they stole patents from Callaway, so their hardly leaders or front runners when they'll do anything to keep their image and brand name at the top :o

I play Bridgestone 330s, longest drive today 294, shortest was 225, average was 250 and play off 3.................

i must be doing something wrong?

It's not how, many its how far!

Play B330s myself, a very good ball.

Er...No!

They employed the guy who patented parts of the ball design while at Topflite, who then used the pretty much same designs for the Pro V. And later, Callaway bought Topflite and so on.

Oh and to clear up another point...
The Bridgestone payments were for patented technology for making the shell (cover) seamless.

Btw 151 ball speed is not great for 111 club-head speed. I'd be looking for 165 from that!

Defo a candidate for the Pro V1X or equivalent imo!

Big fan of the B330 RXS and prefer that to the Pro V's now. Cheaper too. Not been fitted for a ball for a good few years since a Titleist fitting (and they came back to the V1x). Using my stock of Bridgestone until the winter and then back to the AD333 or AD33 tour

So are you saying that Callaway didn't win a law suit against them and pay a percentage to them on Pro V sales?
