Ball Carry

Can anyone give me a rough idea how far my ball should carry please, I was going to go to the pro for a guide but cash strapped this month, as usual,
I play off 20 handicap and work on a about 100yrd for wedge 120yds plus 9 iron 135 8iron but these aren't the carry distance ,need rough idea from sw ,utility, w,9,8,7,6,5,....and is there a formula to work it out when you have established the carry for lets say a 46 degree wedge?thanks

lol if you've worked out roughly wot u hit ure wedge 9 and 8. I think u are more than capable of working out the rest

Your 7 iron should definitely be carrying 180 yards...

Seriously though, everyone's cary distances are different. Swing speed etc all play a massive part. Dont worry about what it "should" be, play with what it is currently

As said above, I can usually hit my 7 iron 160 yards on a good day. Carry is about 150 ish. However if the wind is coming towards me I will no way get 150 yard carry.

Work each club for each shot you take in the conditions that are present. Also if your playing crap (been out the night before or feeling under the weather) you will not be able to play the same as you normally do.

In Scotland the carry distance is 2cm from your ball where there is a big pitch mark in the soggy fairway.

My carry distances for my irons are 10yds apart, which is a good starting point I think.

If you can get on the course when it's quiet, pick one club and see how far away from a bunker you have to get to land the ball in it. Once you have one number for one club work on gaps of 10yds for the others.

You can always reassess if you find on the course that you're consistently long or short of what you worked out.

your carry distance is the distance to your pitchmark...

it's not rocket science (unless you try and work it out theoretically) - you stand on a level par 3 of known distance in calm conditions and select your iron; when you repair the pitchmark is where it landed and you now know the carry distance.
