Not such a good night at the range, as my 5 iron decided to die on me

IMG_0668.jpg

Second club to snap out of my CG16 set, last year my 6 iron did the same thing in exactly the same place, kinda getting concerned that my other CG16 clubs could head the same way.

fortunately, it's my birthday in a couple of weeks, so I may be looking at something other than Cleveland. I've been fancying some Titleist irons, but I think I'll stay manufacturer agnostic, have a fitting and see what works best for me.

Strange. Your hitting off mats I take it? Shouldn't do that really and to have 2 go like this is a little worrying. If off mats are they decent or is it like hitting off concrete. Just wonder if this could be the reason. Presume they are 100% genuine.

Both times the clubs snapped I had flushed the ball, the 6iron, first club was at my lesson of a true strike mat, so a good mat, this evening was you normal 3/4 inch rubber mat with the plastic grass like stuff on top.

Yes the clubs are genuine, all have serial numbers and have been registered with Cleveland since purchase. Mind you the clubs are nearly 3yrs old now, but I would have expected for them to last longer than they have.

That's not good for two clubs to go like that from the one set

How old are they ?

Possible bad batch ?

Don't know then mate, as LP says could be a bad batch of shafts.

Problem is as well, I don't have the head, it's still out lying in the range somewhere. I did report it to the lad at the range and he's left a note for the green keepers when they go out to collect the balls in the morning, so hopefully I'll get it returned and as long as the head is okay, I'll see if I can get a new shaft fitted, if not, then it's new set of clubs.

Two clubs breaking in the same set, I'll just start planting little seeds for wor lass to okay me getting some new clubs, a bunch of flowers will help has well.

How do we know it's your 5 iron? Could be your 4 iron for all we know, are you expecting us to take your word for it?

Do you take divots out the mat?

Nope, top the ball occasionally, well okay more than occasionally, but the majority of the time the ball gets a clean strike and that was the case here. Dunno where the ball went nor the head for that matter, there was just a very loud crack and then a thump. I think the head hit one of the 60 60 golf targets. I went out to look for it but couldn't stop it, as I wrote earlier hopefully the green keepers will find it in the morning.
