I have a friend who says "there's no such thing as bad golf weather, just the wrong choice of clothing"

Now obviously if its lightening you just cant play but what about when theres a bit of wind and rain???

Who still plays?

As long as its not raining too hard i play. wind is good fun but if its raining too hard my glasses steam up and that really pisses me off

I am a Welsh ex rugby player, I love playing in the cold and rain, not a fan of wind but it does give me an excuse for crap shots.

I tried the other week with 20mph winds with gusts of 35mph and its no fun, it might be a challenge at first but after seeing your tee shot follow the wind (in more ways than one) and you can not putt due to the wind making your eyes water (this is not a problem for myself, the way I play this often happens).

I do not see the point in going out on the course when it is siling down, yes I have waterproofs but its no fun.

I enjoy the wind. I spent an hour practising on the 18th on saturday evening hitting a full 8 iron (usually 140yds) from 100yds in to the green stopping it dead (with the oncoming wind holding it up). Makes the shots you hit properly look so good.

However if you slice a drive with a left to right wind its not as enjoyable.

Beyond a certain point it just becomes a war and you might as well hit the showers.

If it's a light shower with broken cloud then i'll grin it out

Once the gloves are wet and the grips are too it's game over.

Had a ten minute hail storm hit us just as we were walking off the tenth on Sunday. As the stones fall they're opaque but once they hit the ground they start to melt and shimmer.

Putting on the 11th green was like putting on a diamond encrusted baize.

If we'd let the weather beat us we never would have seen that. Just a magical moment.

Will always pack as best I can and head out but won't worry about cutting my losses if the gods say no.

For the record, if a lightning storm strikes ffs don't shelter under a tree and don't use a brolley. Head into a dip and wait it out. Electricity takes the path of least resistance(usually a tall, wet tree) Low amps but millions of volts. Not to be flirted with

Pointless playing in a gale. Rain I can handle but wind and rain are a pain in the tits.

Once my hands get cold I'm finished.

I am the same as MVP, as a fellow speccy I can vouch for the fact that steamed-up glasses are the work of satan himself.

I don't like playing in shite weather, a bit of spitty rain is fine as is wind up to 15-20 knots but anything more, nope, no way.

Billy offers great advice on the lightning thing, I have seen many a fool stood under a tree but my lilywhite behind goes straight into a bunker.

If I'm on the course and it starts raining I will pull out the waterproofs and play on, but if its raining badly before I get to the club I just give it a miss until the weather brightens up.

I will try and play in all conditions. We had 35+ mph winds for our stableford the other week which meant some holes were out of reach in two. It was a question of accepting that and playing it as a par 5 and using your shots wisely. It is the same for everyone.

If I am playing in a competition (and because our two nines begin and end at the clubhouse) I'll take the waterproofs out and put my big towel under the umbrella and use it for wiping the clubs. I'll also pack 2-3 of my old golf towels which just about fit in a waterproof pocket which I use to dry the grips before playing. I keep these in a carrier bag to keep them dry in my bag.

I'll also carry a rain glove (one that grips better as it gets wet) and 2 old gloves for the front nine. As I get to the clubhouse I'll dive inside and get 2 more small towels, and 2 more dry gloves. Works a treat every time.

Got caught out in it ourselves on Saturday afternoon. A few very squally showers, and a lot of wind. Got to admit that until recently didn't have any decent waterproofs, now that I have some waterproofs, we stayed out and my playing partner was glad we did as he holed out from 15 yards with a lovely little chip.

Any way decent waterproofs really made the day, worth every penny. Add to that a pair of waterproof, breathable socks, and I was sorted!

I just stand in the middle of the fairway and scream (looking up to the heavens with clenched fists) 'show me what you got mother nature you bit...' :D

Living in Manchester i never leave the house without a full set of waterproofs on, i'll play in anything bar thunder and lightening.

Personaly I love playing in bad weather. No i'm not mad, I find playing a different style of golf very rewarding what could feel better than punching a nice low 6 iron into a par 3 that normally is hit with an 8 iron because your into a strong wind, or using an extra couple of clubs with a slower swing speed because you hands are wet. It makes you a better player and I love it :D

its no fun in the rain , wind i dont mind , but im still crazy enough to get out there , my theory is i want to start playing comps this year and if im gonna do any good i need to be able to play in shitty conditions .......

I will give most weather conditions a try and playing through the winter has been a worthwhile experience. Am now looking forward to some better weather to see what it is like to get a bit of roll on the fairways or to see if the ability to stop a ball on the green is based on improvement or the weather conditions.

i used to be in the marines so rain doesnt bother me. Skin is waterproof.

First time i played a full 18 holer it lashed down all day long. I couldnt of been any wetter so was no point stopping.

Gortex trousers and jacket help to keep you comftable.

If it rains after I have started, I will play on. If my grips get wet, I get a bit annoyed, and may quit (memo to self - buy a rain glove).

If it is rain of biblical proportions on the first tee, I probably won't start unless I paid for the round in advance (tight b.)

Will put it to the test on Thursday. Forecast is rubbish, but playing the Hertfordshire, paid up front. Damn.

Gotta agree with Gilmore on this. The reason that I bought a decent set of waterproofs was that if I joined a club, (which I have done now), was that I might have to play in all weathers.

My other hobby / interest I have done in hurricane conditions, so why should golf be just for perfect summers days? Get committed!!
