Looks like there won't be many top Europeans at next year's WGC as it clashes with the French Open and as its a Ryder Cup Year , many will choose France .

Nice planning :(
Still it gives the yanks a chance to win something :)

Just seen that.
Bit of a cock up really....
Although the WGC will still count towards RC points and they don't have a cut - guaranteed points.
Mmm..tricky

Will be a few heads a scratching at which event to play! Even yanks won't be happy at the date clash as a preview of the course in a RC year would surely of had a strong US prescience. Strange scheduling!

Guessing the RC and the Olympics have thrown a couple of big spanners in the works next year.

The Ryder Cup isn't in France for another 3 years so I don't think that many would have come over for it next year to try out the course. There's 3 or 4 spare weeks over the winter so I'm not sure why they felt the need to slot it in smack bang in the middle of a busy summer schedule.

I think it's more about qualifying points as opposed to playing the actual course

The post I was quoting said the Yanks would come over to get practice on the Ryder cup course. My point was that it would still be 2 years away so there would be little point. I presume that there will be a lot more points available at the WGC as its a co sanctioned event and the better field will increase world ranking points.

It will be two lots of points - one for the world list and one for the European List - I'm not sure if the WGC carries both ? Think it must do if they normally carry RTD points .

I don't think it will be that bad because a lot of the Europeans won't be inside the top 75 so the French will still have a strong field

It would definitely be weakened. I've had a quick look through the entry list for both and there were 20 or so guys playing both. Anyone who wins on the European tour and is in the top 115 in the world is eligible for the WGC so it's a bigger list than you might think.

thats where I got the 'tournament winners inside the worlds top 115' info. That's how guys like Gary Stal and Soren Kjeldsen got in.

So the French will only miss a handful of the full ET members - most of the full time ET will still be playing with the part timers who play in the U.S. missing

Not much different to the French Open field this year

Jamie Donaldson
Martin Kaymer
Graeme McDowall
Stephen Gallacher
Francesco Molinari
Thomas Bjorn
Bernd Weisberger
Danny Willett
Victor Dubuisson
Lee Westwood

That's a selection of top players who played in both. If they all played in the WGC then it's a huge decrease in field strength for the French.

We will have to agree to disagree then - I don't see it being a massive issue

Looks like it's the WGC Bridgestone that has been scheduled against the French as euro tour won't be co sanctioning the event next year.

Not a surprising move by the European tour as it's their only chance of attracting the big European names to play the French in a Ryder Cup year. I guess it's quite clear that the WGC is far from an equal partnership between the various tours.

I agree. I think it's important for the European RC team to get a chance to play the course and personally if the US team miss the opportunity to get a chance to see the course so close to the event it'll be their own look out

I'm getting myself confused again. It's less about playing the course (the French Ryder cup is 2018) than it is about the points on offer for the RTD. The guys who are usually based in the states so are more likely to qualify through the world list will probably still play the WGC whereas the euro list guys should play in France.

It will be a split - the guys who need to qualify through the European list will play the French Open to gain qualifying points

And as you say the guys who are based in the US will play the WGC becasuse there will be world based points on it

Doubt it has anything to do with playing to course to prepare
