Reading Bob's trials of a few years back got me thinking - I've had no end of bad bounces this year and I can't remember more than a couple of good ones. Balls that pitch on a severe left to right slope but still manage to kick up the hill away from the flag, a great drive that kicks 90 degrees right into the rough - you know the ones.

Do we genuinely not remember the good kicks or do we really not get as many as the bad ones? Allegedly, they're supposed to even out over time (law of averages and all that).

If that's the case I've going to get bucket loads of good bounces sometime soon.

i think the bad bounces stick, that and the luck that everyone else has appart from you.

Take saturday, playing the 9th/par 5 i hit a peach of a 3wd down the middle, the hole runs right to left and there is a bunker on the left to catch any stray balls. i hit a perfectly straight ball down the middle to right hand side of the fairway, it landed, first bounce was straight, next bounce was like it hit a kerb and flew 90* left into the sand trap. My opponent loads a driver, slices it right into the thickest of woods, which is bounces out of, misses the bunker and sits perfectly on the left hand side of th fariway....... Golf Sucks!

Just remembered :( :(

Playing in our summer KO the other week, I'm 2 down at the turn. I get a shot on 10(SI1)when my opponent slices his drive towards the OOB, not wishing him ill, but I'm thinking luvly jubberly.
One bounce yes, NO :( His ball has hit the concrete post and bounced back into the light rough. :( :(
Needless to say I end up losing the hole and the match.

I think I get my fair shair of good and bad but I think if your playing for the bounce of a bank(I guess this is not your point?) then it must be down to flight and pace.

Cut out these shots that require a good bounce . Basic probability tells you that you will get a bad bounce alot more often than a good one.

I've had an equal share of both recently to be fair although I think we do tend to remember the bad more than the good. If we didn't have anything to blame things on, we'd have to come to accept the bad play was in some way something to do with us

I'm afraid not. Fragger gets all your good bounces

If there is one thing that really gets Imurgs back up its the "Bad Bounce Syndrome"

It really is great sport, although to be fair, he has had a few shockers recently

Dont mention last friday when my tee shot on the 2nd par 3 (which was heading for the right side of the green). took a leap left and almost hit the flag before finishing 10ft past. Just missed the putt to leave me a nice tap in for par and 3 points.

That was last week when I beat him 33 - 30. but dont mention it as he gets miffed :D :D :D

Fragger, Imurg only ever comes on all tells us about his victories, surprisingly we never hear his tales about your matches when he's on the wrong end of an ass-kicking! :D

A few weekends ago I hit a really poor drive, went low and left and never looked like being a good shot. It was heading straight for the middle of a group of trees and took a damn lucky ricochet off the base of a trunk and came out at 90 degrees into the middle of the fairway!

Not a long shot but ended up a million times safer than it looked like t was going to!

Mind you, I hit plenty of trees and never see where the ball goes so I guess it's more bad than good luck.

Just remember to revel in the good luck when it occasionally graces your game! :)

The better the player, the more bad bounces.

Simply because a good player will be on line more often and then likely to bounce off line.

A bad player will be off line and hence will sometimes get kicks back into a good position and will remember them more.

It's logical Captain.

If he beats me when I'm playing well then you'll hear about it!

This has to be the best of the season........playing the 10th hole at channels in chelmsford. I hit my 1st drive which definately lookd OOB!!!! hit a provisional which went too long and into the dich!!!!! by the way it is a hilly hole so you cant see much hole. As I walked 2/3rd of the way down there is the 11th T, the guys told me your ball went OOB and hit something and landed on the path near the 11th T...lol. My playing partners could not believe it but obvious witness statements said it all. As it was on the path I got a free drop and landed it 4 yards to the pin.......well well well......I got a birdie. Went on to win the society day...lol

I remember years ago at my previous club we were playing a medal. The course was only 9 holes and the field to the left of the 1st had a herd of cows in it. The Guy I was playing with tees up and hits an almighty hook and -it really did!- it hit a Cow's arse and rebounded back into play.
The cow set off for the other side of the field at a rate of knots similar to a Cheetah on Speed!!

Am I alone? Having had a bad 18 months form wise I've become somewhat philosophical about the whole thing. In the good old days a ball going towards a green and kicking right into a nbunker (usually into a footprint or under the back lip) would really wind me up. These days with my swing more unpredictable than picking a West Ham manager I am more than happy to make good contact and take whatever fate has for me.

I do seem to play with a lot of guys in our weekend roll up who've got special balls off the interweb that have an allergy to wood and bounce back into the centr of fairways whenever they head towards the trees. Other than that what can you do about it. I'm getting too old to worry about it anymore. I get the odd good break too and just have a smile and carry on. I don't look at it as evening the ledger between good and bad
