About 18 months ago I had a pro take a cold look at my long game swing as I was hitting it too much right to left and basically I had got far too in to out with the path as much as 10 degrees in to out on some shots.

Spent a fair bit of time straightening out the path to get a straighter ball flight, worked hard on the feeling of swinging left and making sure I got more hip rotation and less hand action which led to a less in to out path and much reduced side spin numbers and thus much greater control and less dispersion.

Fast forward to a few months ago and I reinjured my left knee leading to it being hard to get as good a rotation and the weight on my left side at impact and leading to me stuck a bit on the right side having to flip the club more with the hands.

With the weather being awful today and my singles match being cancelled I went and hit balls on a monitor instead. Sadly the results were hugely disappointing as I sort of expected. Shots ranged from a block to a draw to a massive overdraw (hook).

I didnt have the HMT technology on so didnt get path and face numbers (will do that next time) but with the ball flight and when the side spin numbers are as high as 1000+rpm with a wedge in hand it doesnt take a genius to work it out. Will have a lesson in the next week or two but looks like its back to the old drills for winter (fitness permitting!!!) So frustrating!

Only positive was that my distances were pretty much as expected and quite consistent across decent samples sizes.

I take on board everything you have said above but there is no doubt that on course your flight is straighter(less shape) and long.

I sort of thought that too but have definitely been missing a lot more greens than I usually do lately and hard not to believe the numbers. Will have another session just to double check them but think its a winter grinding again! As for long, thats never been the problem lol

True enough. You have a place to go this time though with the knowledge/feelings you gained last winter. Guess there is a bit of fooling the body to do as it should as its reaction will be to protect you rather than make a good shot at the moment.

Pitching wedge 155y carry into the second green last week.... Ye, your ok for distance.... 😀

Careful you will get him kicked off this site and sent to golf wrx talking about those distances no one can achieve. Lol
