Had to come off last Wednesday after 14 holes as my back siezed up, spasm maybe, and I could not walk for 10 mins.

Rested 3 days and palyed on saturday, slight twinge but same happened after 15 had to retire again.

The pain is in the lower back Right hand Side, I am right handed. Going to the docs later today.

Anybody else suffered from similar problems and anyone know what to do to correct. I always warm up and am no spring chicken but played various sports all my life.

Do you finish up on your right toe at the end of your swing?
Lots of people with bad backs dont move their feet and end up with both feet planted on the ground.

Whilst I do not have a followthrough like Rory, and am 60 I do get through the ball. The answer to your question is 80% through but my right foot is not planted on the floor

I had problems in the same area, the advice I got from my GP was useless ie bad back, early 40's, join the club. Didn't offer any help other than offering painkillers

I went to see a sports physio who works with the British cycling team, turns out my core muscles were weaker on one side which was causing alignement issues. Couple months of exercises and the problem went after suffering for a bout 2 years.

I'm not saying that's what your problem is, I'm saying see an expert, well worth the £50 I spent

Cheers for your help guys. Made a call to the physio 1 hour ago and awaiting a reply.

Same one I went earlier this year with my ankle and knee- Oh the joy of getting old!

Just returned from Physio. Back spasm she said and she was blonde and 20 something so I believed her.

Feeling better already and looking forward to the weekend.

Thanks for your help

I get problems too but usually if I overdo the number of balls at the range. I tend to use ibuprofen to ease the inflammation and rest. I did go to my GP but got the usual lecture on healthy lifestyle, bad backs are hard to diagnose and the usual phlim phlam

I hurt my back and decided to see a sports physio who came recommended. I had about 12 weekly visits and not much was improving although I still played regular golf. In the end I asked to be referred to a back specialist and after xrays and a scan it turned out to be arthritis of the hip and I had the worst one replaced last October. I was able to play 9 holes after 2 weeks and I am considering having the other one done soon. I wasted a few hundred pounds on the physio who said that he could get me ok when he never could - see a specialist is my advice and find out what the problem really is!
