Hello All,
I've just started to play golf, i practice a few days a week have had a few lessons.

Today at lunch i was out at a range and I started to get some pain in the lower part of my back when i was addressing the ball. I'm guessing this is a posture issue, but i was wondering if any of you have any exercises or tips to strengthen the lower part of the back?

Cheers
Mark

Also, google "core strength exercises". Anything that will strengthen your core will help.

I get lower back issues, but when I was working out 3 or 4 times a week for american football my posture was better and pain non-existant....Now I've stopped again and been lazy, it's come back.

Try and make sure you're not hunched over when addressing the ball too.

At the end of the golf swing, are you in a balanced comfortable position up on your right toe (right hander) or is your rear foot flat on the ground?

Thanks bobmac, At the end of my swing i feel nice and balanced, i try and hold the final position for about 2 sec. My rear foot is up on the toe and 90deg.

You might have doen something as silly as tweak it bending over to get a ball. Try ibuprofen and see what happens. If the pain is bearable and you decide to hit more balls warm up properly and may invest in a heat patch to keep it warm and supple as you hit balls

Hi, welcome to the forum

You dont give your age so its harder to comment. I'm 58 and I started to get back pains and to cut a long and boring story short, it turned out to be arthritus of the hips, so, if it doesnt clear up you would be best to see a specialist.
Best of luck and enjoy the forum

Welcome to the forum, are you warming up. I used to get this alot and found a good way to warm my back up before play. My guess it like me, you are over playing a bit.

Thanks again for the comments and welcomes.
We're i've been practicing its about a 15min quick walk from home, so thats my warm up and i don't go in with big swings to start.

I did grab a lesson yesterday and it looks like i was over rotating my rear foot, so no i've correct this and my back does feel better, the niggle is there. Playing 18 on Sat so i might have a few ibuprofen's before tee-off :-)
