I've just been reading /watching the events from the plane fire in Vegas and it seems it was dealt with impeccably by airport staff.

The bit that shocks me is that 13 people were injured while using the planes emergency slide/chute. I then notice in the video that most of the passengers have evacuated with their (in some cases) quite sizable hand luggage.

I'd love to know the nature of the injuries, was it as they fell off the end of the chute or was it colliding with other passengers or indeed their luggage.

I'd hope in an emergency situation I'd be less bothered about my bag with a magazine/water/werthers originals than I would be than safely getting away from the plane.

Does look like a tragedy was averted and will be interesting to see what caused the fire in the engine and whether any other planes will be grounded. What shocked me was someone opened the emergency doors over the wing where the engine was on fire. First passenger sorta said " sod that Al get out the other side.".

I don't think 14 were hurt on the chute

BBC report:

Airport officials said passengers were taken to the city's Sunrise hospital, most of them with injuries sustained while sliding down inflatable chutes during the evacuation.

Watching it again today and the fire crews were on site fighting the fire whilst people were still coming down the chutes. Excellent response from the fire crews.

why oh why did people get off the plane when it's on fire with there hand luggage. What is that all about.

Saw the coverage and can't understand why you'd stop for hand luggage and risk your life and those of the passengers around you. Crazy. What's so important in there?

Strange but when I get up in the morning I like me cuppa tea, brekkie and kill 10-20 mins doin BBC news and this site. There's a story on the BBC news site this morning where passengers are begin ripped to bits for getting off with there luggage. There's arather funny cartoon as well with is probably typical of some people today.
would post a link but steve jobs am not.

It happened in America, the litigation capital of the world. I'm really surprised that there aren't more folk claiming injuries. ;)
