A friend and I will be driving (900 mile roundtrip:confused:) up to St. Andrews next month and looking for a place to stay a couple of nights?

Does anyone know of any good, cheap B&B's in a 30 minute radius?

Thanks Smange will check it out.

Only one booked in at the Eden (comp) but will probably try our luck with the old course roll up at 4am or the ballot - but we have 2 hopes..... lol.

Last time a few years ago we played Hillside which is sort of on the route back home. Its a long way to play a round so we'll try to find somewhere else to play.

I've stayed at Edenside Guest House a couple of times.

Shared Room is good value!

Single Room, then deciding to camp out beside the Starter's office at 02:30 (wasn't first there! Got on at 11:00) wasn't good value!

£56 a night double occupancy or £40 single rooms looking good. Waiting to hear back.

You meant you waited from 2.30am till 11am for the old course? Geez I don't know if I want to play it quite as much as that. Did you get off as a single or 2ball in the end?

Nope. Arrived about 10pm, paid (£32 from memory) and having been told that it as quite busy as Autumn Meeting, then closed to prepare for Dunhill, decided to go down and ensure I as at head of Q. 1 guy was already there - 10 mins earlier - and next couple arrived at 4:30. Starter arrived about 6:45 (about a dozen in Q by then), took names in order. Cancellation came up, so the 4 of us got on. so didn't really use B&B that night. Appreciated it that night though. nice breakfast before tackling Kingsbarns!

Personally I would swerve the Edenside solely because it is situated about 3 miles outside St Andrews and there is nothing better than staying in the town so you can wander around soaking up the atmosphere without the hassle of car parking.

Depends what you are looking for though as there are not many B&B's in the town that are under £45 a night.

(Slight thread hijack) Is there a "best time" of the year to go to St Andrews? I live in permanent temptation to drive/jump on the train and head to St Andrews whenever I get reminded to take my holidays at work!

Go in October, 'Shoulder period' when green fees are cheaper, but you don't have to use mats. The Old Course is also in great condition as they play the Dunhill Links at the beginning of the month. Pot luck with the weather of course.:mmm:
