Azinger's Picks

Me too. I reckon we have real strength in depth again. Like the look of our side a lot. None of the US names are scary, but then many are unknown...but we have a few of those ourselves.

I think it will be a lot closer this time. There is a small possibility that the US will benefit from the Tiger Show not being in town. That said, I am starting a sweepstake on how many times he is mentioned during the week!

Im not sure about the 'tiger show'. these guys play with him week in week out so why should it affect them. Its like a gyno working all week then going to see his/her partner. Its still the same

good analogy ;o)

I do think there is a small chance that the US will benefit as their own egos will get a massage, rather than that of the top man. That will be unusual for them in normal weeks or at the Ryder Cup - usually it's Tiger + 11 guys...now it's 12 men as a team. We'll see eh?

Thoughts on potential pairings to be wary of?

Cink & Stricker together would be the only scary pairing in my mind. Real streaky and great putters.

Forget Mickelson and Furyk. We have the beating of those two with 4 or 5 of our pairings.

I think if the pressure of the event doesnt get to him that JB holmes maybe the dark horse, unknown to many but good golfer and with extensive knowledge of the course will benefit him greatly. so if plays with an experienced guy then they can use that knowledge to win their pairing, maybe big Phil?

Agreed John.

Cink is solid and did pretty well at the K Club. Stricker is in good form and as Zinger said, would likely have got a place on merit if there were a couple of weeks left to qualify.

Not sure about the rest...pretty unspectacular on paper for me...

Phil Mickelson
Stewart Cink
Kenny Perry
Jim Furyk
Anthony Kim
Justin Leornard
Ben Curtis
Boo Weekley
Chad Campbell
J.B. Holmes
Hunter Mahan
Steve Stricker

I think his choice of picks are worse than Faldo's.
Our guys will hardly be quaking in their boots.

I will predict that Poulter will get 2 1/2 points min. and shut up the doubters which have gone quiet all of a sudden.

I must admit that I thought Zach Johnson would have been one of his picks

Holmes v Wilson in the singles...now THAT will be a long match! Put them out last on Sunday and do everyone a favour.

Shame Immelman can't play - we'd have the slowest 3-ball of all time!

Surprised Zach Johnson was not picked he was 16th in their table 5 places ahead of Chad Campbell.
Only Stricker of the wildcards would frightens me.

When I first heard of J B Holmes in the pick I laughed...the bloke's going to bore all his opponents silly (which is of course an obvious tactic).

Stricker, by his own admission, has been so nervous lately that I wonder if he's going to get his part of the job done for Zinger.

Hunter Mahan's a good bomb and gouge player but not much else. I wonder if he's going to take advantage of the riskier shots at Valhalla.

As for Chad Campbell...

Yep, I thought either Snedeker or O'Hair would have made it. Exciting young players, would have been gung-ho for taking a Euro scalp.

Chad Campbell, JB Holmes? Oh dear!

There is always a lot of rubbish and posturing leading up to RC. I think on paper there is balance but I think due to the last RC the Americans will have their dander well and truely up and could be a real threat. I will let you know who I think will win when i see them play the first couple of games.
