planning next years tour already, looking like a trip to ayrshire.

seen a decent golf pass deal including prestwick st nicholas, kilmarnock barrasie, irvine and dundonald for £220. (or £140 without dundonald) all look good tracks and £220 for 4 rounds suits our budget. anyone with any knowledge of the area who can advise if this is a good deal or not.
would love to play troon/turnberry/prestwick but seem out of our price range as we try to get in 4 courses around £50-£60 each
also, which town would be best for us to base ourselves in for 3 nights ?

cheers for any advice/suggestions

You could do worse than base yourself in Prestwick. Better than Ayr IMO for a night out. Several 'golf' type hotels in town. there are 'locals' on here who can steer you on the right track.

There are lots of good courses in that neck of the woods. You could even keep an eye out on the Bunkered magazine website, as they often do great deals if you take out a subscription (Normally Sep/Oct time) This year I got both Turnberry Kintyre and The Dukes at St Andrews for £32, so 4 of us are playing them later in the summer. Ayr is probably the best town to stay in as there is a bit of life about it, most of the other towns are quite small if it's a lads weekend away. If you travel up by car then you could stay in Glasgow as it's not that far down the motorway to Troon/Prestwick.

There are plenty of members on here that will let you know the best courses to play in the area.

sounds like a cracking deal to me,irvine golf club(bogside)have super greens at present and st nicolas also in cracking condition..dundonald at £50 is good value as a great course,no sure on brassie as never played it...west kilbride not too far away but not as good as other 4 in my opinion

The Cooncil pass gives you James Braids Bellisle and Troon Lochgreen which was an Open Qualifier in the 60's.
Troon Darley is also a great . The cooncil courses are generally in good condition but in the main season the can be busy.
Turnberry generally do good deals on Kintyre plus the Evening ticket on Ailsa is £90. [I think]
Do a wee bit of research as there are numerous agencies offering packages which are not necessary the best option.
Carlton Hotel is on the Ayr/Prestwick boundaries and offers good value. The Abbotsford is the main golfing hotel in Ayr. There are plenty Premier lodge type hotels in that area.
Prestwick is best for social life.
PM me if you want further info.
It is all fairly close together. Ayr/Prestwick/Troon/Irvine all more or less blend into each other.
Glasgow has a vibrant night life and is an hour away by train or car [Train fares are cheap in Scotland]

If your willing to stay somewhere cheap and cheerful, we booked with Haven and 3 of us stayed in a caravan for 1 week for only £86 each. They also do 3 or 4 night stays for cheaper. They had 50% deals in january, we booked in February at 40% discount (but stayed in the May). More money to spend on the golf then.

Take earplugs though, to drown out the 2.00 am Rangers/Celtic songs.

Dundonald and Irvine are great BTW. If I get round to it I'll be putting course reviews on soon.
