That time again where it's time to join new club I moved back to Ayrshire last year although never joined a club last year as was away with work all year. However defo joining this year and was looking for advice on where to join. I live in Kilmarnock and rowallan castle is a mile up the road so that would be the easy choice however open to suggestions within about 20 minutes drive. Would be willing play few rounds on courses to give them try.Cheers for suggestions in advance

We're really lucky (I'm 5 mins away from you btw).

Rowallan have some good deals on at the moment, but I predict it will still be quite wet, despite some improvement works. Nice place and a good pro.

You could head down to the Troon Munis- links (mainly) and decent price but they are renovating the clubhouse now so not great for socialising.

You have Irvine Bogside which is meant to be great. Or Prestwick St Nicholas- another good option.

Or Dundonald Links- they have a 5 day membership available at around £850 (Mon-Fri and after 12pm on Sundays, with Saturday play at £30 a round, including medals).

Or, if you want to drive the other way, you are 15-20 mins from the likes of East Renfrewshire (can get you a discount on joining fees and membership for this year, but be quick!) or Eastwood.

Loudoun Gowf Club is a really decent parklands course and quite close, so have a think about it.

Or, if you are watching the pennies, there's always Annanhill/Caprington which will get you out playing cheaply.

Think it'd be wasted opportunity not to play links when living here. I often play annanhill as play for free with army ID good to practice. Where you play virtuosity ?

Depending on where you stay in Killie you could be at Bogside in around 20 minutes with the Troon Muni courses taking you a little longer and Prestwick St Nicks longer still. If you rule out Western, Gailes and Royal Troon my choice would be one of the links already mentioned.
I played at Lodoun for a good number of years and as good as the course is it does get wet and boggy in the winter, meaning a shorter playing season. Rowallan is similar. I had a lesson there last week and the greens were amazing firm and in good nick. Apparently tees and greens are to USGA spec but as mentioned fairways need lots of drainage.
Have you played most of the courses mentioned ?
