Morning all,

Just wanting some advice for those you who live or have play around the Ayrshire area. I'm looking to book our annual trip and have the following options to play. Any that you'd particularly recommend / avoid?

Troon Lochgreen
Troon Darley
Ayr Belleisle
Ayr Seafield
Rowallan Castle
Gailes Links

Thanks!

I don't know Seafield or Rowallan Castle but the others are all decent tracks. Gailes is lovely and I always enjoy playing Darley. Lochgreen is longer and a bit tougher but not as interesting. Bear in mind that Lochgreen, Darley, Belleisle and Seafield are all public courses and not necessarily in the best condition. You get a lot of kids walking across Darley at school chucking out times too.

Thanks very much, any in the surrounding you've recommend we look at?

Yeah loads! Depends on budget but the big ones are Turnberry, Prestwick and Royal Troon. Next step down you have Western Gailes, Dundonald, Barassie, Prestwick St Nicholas and Irvine, all very good tracks. Further up the coast is West Kilbride and there are also the 2nd courses at Turberry and Troon which are worth playing too.

Pretty much covers all bases, also a bit further north is Largs, smashing course

Thanks all, trying to keep it relatively cheap to get as many bought into this years trip as possible so probably best to stick to the mainland!

If it's cheap you're looking for, you could do a lot worse than base your trip around the South Ayrshire Council courses at Bellisle,, Lochgreen & Darley. Three testing courses, all very good value. Early enquiries necessary as they will be very busy during the height of the season.

Try a little further up the coast at Largs Golf Club.

Always in ridiculously good condition, best greens I have putted on in this country.

Seafield is quite short and tight in places. Same as the Fullarton course at Troon muni
Seafield works well with a pm round at Belleisle, if it was a single day I would choose another.
The other courses mentioned can up your budget a bit [£50-90 a round]

I assume you are buying a SA golf card in which case Girvan is worth a visit, good course for 36 holes in a day.

If you are playing 18 holes a day Stranraer [another Braid course] or Portpatrick are a beautiful one hour drive south.

Prestwick St. Cuthberts is great value and would be well within your budget. Greens are always in immaculate condition during the summer.

Thank you, that is the other Prestwick course that I just couldn't remember the name of!
