I played an away open competition on Thursday and scored an embarrassing 15 points. I sent an email to my club on Thursday evening to let them know my score, particularly as my handicap was 14.4 before the competition.

When I turned up at my home club yesterday my playing handicap was still 14. I played off 14 in yesterday's competition as my understanding is, you can be DQ'd for playing off a higher handicap but not a lower one than you're supposed to.

Does my my club need to wait for official confirmation of the scores from the club where the competition was held? Or should I have been playing off 15 yesterday?

You did the right thing. You aren't allowed to increase your handicap, even if you know you will go up 0.1. The away club will either directly update the CDH or inform your club to do so. In my experience, it takes a few days.

For completeness, had you played well, you would have been required to reduce your handicap accordingly (against SSS if the CSS is not known)

Thanks. Was it pointless me notifying my club as they can't increase it until they get confirmation of the scores?

No, it is still the players responsibility to inform their home club of away scores even in this age of electronic data etc.

No, you should still tell them as it is your responsibility, but the away club does need to provide the information to your club.

We must enter our away score details in the book that's kept in the locker room.
Clubs using different systems can cause delays in results being posted.

If the host club has input the away player correctly notification to the home club system should happen very quickly after the comp has been closed. The delay can be at the home club end when nobody has accessed the home system.

The home club unfortunately still has to accept the away score as it was never made an automatic requirement. A poor decision by CONGU IMO.
