Played in 3 single comps this week on 'Away Courses'.

My handicap at the start of the week was 12.6 and on 1 day 1 was 1 under CSS which reduced the H/C to 12.3 and the next day gained 1 back to 12.4. I managed to send these to The Club by email and they were noted.

Yesterday I lost a further 0.1 so my handicap now is 12.5. I only returned to The Club this p.m after theguy who does the figues had left.

I assume tomorrow I will play off 12. The guy that does the away scores is going out at 8 a.m and I am playing at 10.30a.m.

He will return th The Clubhouse at 11.30 approx and if he altered my handicap at that time when I am on the course would it make any difference?

Birdieman Fyldewhite where are you and FW hope the leg is better!

When you post a good score, you assume a cut and play with it. If you post a score likely to increase your handicap, you wait for it to be posted. So play off the lower handicap tomorrow as you are starting before any changes can be made. You cannot assume it will go up.

your doing yourself no harm by playing off the lower figure. By the time you come in it may be up to 13 and no issue.

If entered as 12 handicap in the comp your playing record will sort itelf out in the end, at least I know this happens using club2000 software.

Players playing "away" in qualifiers are obliged to "self reduce" if they score better than CSS (or SSS if CSS not known) and the results have not reached their Home Club. They are not allowed to "self increase" if scoring above CSS/SSS.

Can't add a lot to the above really. You cannot "put yourself up" 0.1 on the basis of an away score but you must bring yourself down based on the SSS if the CSS isn't known. This is to protect yourself from possible disqualification if you end up playing off a higher handicap. Away scores have always been a problem tbh as clubs sometimes take ages to return scores to the home club and it's basically a lot of messing around with manual adjustments etc. The CDH (EGU Central Database of Handicaps) is making things much easier though.

It was the back, not the leg. And yes, it's much better thanks, only missed one round in Portugal, had to sit by the pool drinking a cool beer or three instead :D. Just hoping it holds out for the Manchester-Blackpool bike ride tomorrow !! :D
