Hey all I was just wandering what would be classed as an average or good handicap on here! I currently playing off 20 and I would not class myself as a good player. But I see many topics on here trying to break 100 mark I'm currently around 90 mark per round!! At what handicap would you class as a good player??

12ish - good
Single figure - very good
Cat 1 - excellent
Scratch or better - different league
Pro - other worldly

That's my thoughts on it. I aspire to single figure golf, long way to go.

I think that a 'good' golfer is someone who plays off around 15 / 16, I play 25 so am a long way off - but I guess it depends who you play with. My usual lot struggle to break 100 a lot of the time (bar one or two of them) whereas I'm aiming for a sub 90 round in the near future so in terms of my 'group' I'm a good golfer!

I would agree dufferman... or atleast its what I used to think... :)

I guess the closer you get the more your idea of a good golfer changes... I played like what I would class as a brilliant golfer on the front 9 at a championship course in Cheshire last week paring the first 7 and then bogeying the last 3... On the back 9 I managed to shoot +8 though and it brought me crashing back down... I still managed to shoot +11 which is a handicap I would be very proud of... but now I have seen I can do it on a big quality course... I want to get to single figures...

Always changes mate I guess

I too have aspirations of getting to single figures, but then I went to the range yesterday.
More chance of reaching 3 figures if I carry on like that

IMHO single figures is the natural dividing line between a good golfer and the rest of us. It is also a challenging but not unreasonable long term target for those of us still on the high side of that divide.

I think a good handicap would be 16 and under. I know some good golfers who play at 18 but I'm sure once the weather picks up they'll easily get under that marker

I STILL play at 28 but with some persistence I have set 21 (1/4 off) as the marker for 2013

For years I hoped to get to 18 - now I am here I want more, more ,more. 16 is my next target.

Its a moving target the lower your HC gets you can see the possibility of getting it lower so want to push on.

Having said that I play with a 28 HC'er and we have great games each week so as long as your HC reflects your true ability then you can be competative in the right format and have fun playing which is what golf is all about.

I am as happy to see a high handicapper win as a low handicapper win but not as happy as if its me.

I agree with you that I am a Chomper to some and accept that when I play with most of the guys who I peg it up with, but for anyone to say that anywhere in double figures is classed as a good golfer just has to be wrong:confused:

Weekend Warrior comes to mind:rofl:
