Not wanting this post to turn into a 'i hit my driver ????yards'

According to Trackman data taken

The average driver carry distance on the PGA Tour is 269 yards

The average driver carry distance on the LPGA Tour is 220 yards

I honestly thought the women would have averaged further.

Given that most of them have swing speeds under 100 mph, 220 carry is pretty respectable.

The courses they play are substantially shorter than the ones the guys play. More like 6500 yards than 7300. This makes them more like the average club golfer in terms of distances and clubs hit. Just more accurate.

Well as I posted after my Titleist fitting, Miss Gulbis has a greater average carry than me!

God, she needs to smile more!

Jeez, a few of us can shank it further! haha

It is true that some pros do not hit a long ball, its their accuracy that keeps them earning money and away from the ratrace though. Im sure Sunday league people can run and dribble faster than Ryan Giggs or thump a ball like Bobby Charlton, doesnt make them better footballer than a pro though.

I hit some absolute stripers today, jumpped out of my shoes on a couple into the wind.

Longest was a down/ off the right wind which totalled 261yds.

The majority were 230yds.

First drive of the day into the wind........191yds!!! :o :D

Which somes it up nicely when a 3.7h/c can drive the ball 260 yards down wind. shows the aaverage driving distance on this forum is total poppycock!

Had a discussion with one of my regular fourball last week about the average length of our drives. We are fairly similar, occasionally one of us will really connect well with a nice shape and it goes a bit further than the other, but usually we are similar give or take the odd yard.

He was adamant that his average is 270 - 280 with some getting out to 300.

Played yesterday afternoon on my own no wind but cold and very very soft underfoot. Hit an absolute corking drive on the 17th, didn't really seem to get any bounce and roll, but was still way past the fairway bunker that is the normal yardstick for a good drive, so decided to measure it with the GPS app on my phone 246 yards :o

I use Google Earth to measure the length of my drives - just to give me a realistic idea. It's pretty easy to pick out a nearby landmark to give a very good waypoint for measurements.

The point I've noticed most is that it's very easy to overestimate. A 360 yard hole becomes much shorted when you are honest about the distance remaining, and also take allowance for the tee being up to 30 yards from the back of the teeing area making it 330 yards!

I think male golfers could do with trying to emulate the accuracy the best ladies have with their irons rather than the length the men have off the tee.
The length the ladies hit the ball is much nearer to the average male amateur golfer than the pros who we all think we would like to hit it as far as.
