One for the mechanics on here so any input greatly appreciated, Daughter has a 13 plate diesel TT , gone in to limp mode with engine management light on , got it to local specialist and they saying its got a hole in a valve ? £850 to sort , any one come across this before ? It has only done around 43k so not really very impressed with this .

Not enough info for a sensible response.

How do they know the valve has a hole? - if its dismantled then you're not going to take it away from that company so (unless they find consequential damage to other bits) I'd suggest they crack on after you've tried a bit of negotiating.

Sorry about being a bit sketchy the girl is not asking the right questions and has no idea and unfortunately i cannot get time to go to the garage , i think they have found a fault around the turbo\EGR area but she has no idea . Turns out she bought a warranty with the thing so it looks like she is sorted , also the dealer she got it from is going to contribute so not a bad resolution really . It is really nice to hear of a used car dealer who helps, especially reading some of the comments on here in some threads that seem to delight in slating some of them.I suppose it helped when she talked to them in a civillised manner not all guns blazing ,, a lesson to us all i suppose , think before jumping in after all we are all human with all that entails.

Slightly different, but a few years ago my wife went on a short test drive with the sales lady in a newish Merc SL sports
They whizzed away like a rocket, they crawled back about 30 minutes later moaning it wouldn't go any faster than 10 mph.
My wife had accidentally turned on the speed limiter, the sales lady didn't know it had one :smirk:.

I can still see the expression on their faces when i told them what had happened .
Women drivers :D ,now where's my tin hat.

Garage just saying a hole in a valve is a bit vague and misleading. Modern engines are made up of multiple electronically actuated valves all of which can develop issues although holes are a bit rarer.
Audi EGR valves are the normal culprit but turbo is a possibility although if it's the same 2.0 TDi block I am thinking about the noise it makes would give it away.
Garage needs to be more specific as EGR Should be no more than £300 all in and even then that's steep. An hours labour and £250 worst case rip off IEM part.
