Remember reading that Doug Sanders, on being asked about that putt many years later, replying that he had got over it and could now go a whole half hour without thinking about it.
 
Good quiz question as everyone thinks Saunders missed that putt to lose the Open. He missed to tie after 72 holes.
He lost the 36 hole play off the next day to Nicklaus.

You could say Saunders lost the Open on the first day when he dunked his pitch at the first into the Swilken burn and took a six.
 
This has reminded of the thread the other day abotu what constitutes gimme range. If there is enough riding on it, you could argue that no putt is in gimme range, looking at this example.
