I know this won't mean much to many but I have finally broken 80 (yesterday).

I have had a series of good 9s but somehow not two together. A couple of weeks back, I ballsed up 18 to end up with an 80 but yesterday (and without a single birdie!) I went out in 39 and back in 40 (35/36 par). The good thing for me was thinking that I hadn't done anything remarkable during the round. Holed a few decent clutch putts and one good bunker save but otherwise nothing spectacular, which makes me feel I can do it more often.

Would probably have been better if the fourball of old boys in front hadn't decided to mark their cards behind the 18th directly in line with the flag (and only about 20yds behind it), which after waiting ages and they still hadn't moved contributed to me thinning my wedge approach a bit. Fluffing my 1st chip back did nothing to improve my mood (and the society could have shown a little respect and kept the noise down a tad while I played this, but hey I was a single player and giving them an average of 30 years so I suppose I don't count...) but I nailed the follow-up chip to a couple of inches.

Anyway, if I play like this in a comp I'll start seeing that 16hc start to fall - at long last!

Happy days (for the time being... ;) )

Good barrier to break, I think you need to do it in a competition environment now to validate it. I remember feeling great when I did it first in competition as a junior, makes you feel like a good golfer.

Next target -sub 70? That's another great target to break, you'll feel fantastic when you do that!

Congratulations. I know the feeling, as I shot my first sub 80 this year too. Like you, nothing spectacular - just avoided those awful holes where one poor shot becomes a string of them. I've managed to do it three times now - and though I haven't done it in a competition yet, I have played much better in the competitions knowing that I do have the game. Good luck, hope the good form continues.
