Big competition at your club.
Vast majority of players going off the 1st tee, but a few, including yourself, are starting on a tricky par 3, 180 yards with a lot of trouble around, and a high stroke index. You're not shotting.
Would you consider yourself at a disadvantage having to make your first shot of the day an almost perfect strike with an iron compared to those facing a lower stroke index par 4 with a wide fairway where you usually pick up a couple of points??

No, because my driver is misbehaving at the moment!

Also, I don't warm up before a round, so an iron is easier to hit cold than a wood, for me.

I really think that a par 3 is a much easier start than a par 4.

Usually a lot less of a chance to lose your ball on a par 3 so you always find it (or know where its ended up).

Take a club more and do a nice rigid swing and just get it near the green. Less pressure than trying to hit a driver with the first swing of the day.

Much prefer a par 4 or even a par 5 start. I would feel disadvantaged. Our course starts with a 178 yard par 3 often into the wind. Absolutely terrible starting off hole when trying to get a round started however we are all in the same boat. What reason are you having to start on a different hole when the majority are starting on the 1st?

I'd prefer to be on the first with driver in hand but I'd suggest you're only really at a disadvantage if you allow yourself to think you are when you're on the tee.

Just forget all that and put a good swing on it! Stupid mental game, golf....

I would much prefer a higher indexed par 4, knock one of them things you don't carry down the fairway, then a mid iron should be there or thereabouts and bogey at worst. A well protected par 3 without a shot would be much harder, especially first hole imo.

The course I have played the last 3 times starts par 3 over wet stuff, 2nd is SI 1 par 4 over wet.

1st round messed both 1st holes
2nd, 6 on the par 3, 5 on the par 4
3rd, 4 on the par 3, 7 on the par 4.

No rhyme or reason really. Just mental I guess, so as another said, if you think you will be at a disadvantage, then our mind will make you a disadvantage.

But TBH, the 1st hole is always a worry for me. So wouldn't matter if a nic3 easy par 3/4/ or 5 or really tight hard 3/4/5.....

Swings and roundabouts.

Our 1st is an easy par 4 that I usually hit a fairway wood off the tee and am happy with a 4.

When I have to start on the 10th - which is a much harder (imo) hole - I'm then fully warmed up when I get round to number 1 and can hit driver and fancy my chances of a birdie.

Disadvantaged IMO I would sooner start with a lash with the driver.
When we have a shotgun do try to avoid starting on a par 3 even of it means a bit longer walk to start.
